We received the gift in memory of your little Josh and it made our daughter's day. She picked a Cinderella doll. She has autism and usually doesn't speak but she was quick to say "Cinderella!" Any time she speaks, it brings me great happiness. Thank you.

Our toddler son recently had to be seen in the St. E’s ER. When his nurse brought in the toy for him, he was filled with joy and was able to forget about his fear and pain for a moment. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for this selfless gesture on behalf of Josh. We are so sorry for your loss, and although we know your heart will never fully heal, we will be praying for peace for you and your family. Thank you, and God bless.

My daughter Autumn had to come to Children’s hospital for low hemoglobin levels. She was blessed with a wonderful Lego Set in memory of your sweet son. It has brightened her spirits and given us a wonderful experience to enjoy together as we build it. I am so sorry for your loss, but so grateful for your generosity. Thank you so much! Please know I am also praying for your heart as you continue to miss your baby boy.

My son was in the children’s ER at St E’s. His biggest emotion was fear about being at the hospital. Upon arrival, he received a toy in honor of Josh. I shared Josh’s story with him and he said it helped him feel “brave like Josh” and even encouraged him to take some yucky medicine. Thank you for brightening our and others’ experience. It’s a beautiful way of honoring Josh.

Thank you for your donations. After one unsuccessful hospital stay in our local town we ended up at Children’s. My daughter was in horrible pain from a medication and the toy you donated made her day! She picked out the game trouble and our entire family has had the chance to battle my daughter in the game. We are so thankful for your thoughtfulness. Today we head home with our daughter on her way to good health. Prayers that your journey of heeling continues.

I want to thank-you for the continued toy donations in honor of Josh. These donations touch so many hearts; recently one of our volunteers took a stuffed elephant to a patient in short stay and she said the smile that she got when the toy was handed to him was the best moment she had encountered while volunteering as the child was not feeling well but this made him feel a little bit better. We thank-you for your kindness and for building such a wonderful tribute to Josh.

Hi! My name is Sue and I am a foster parent of a sweet little 2 yr old who has been in the hospital since before Christmas this year. We were so touched to see the gift provided by the hospital and when we opened it we saw the sicker that it was from Josh! Thank you so much for your kind and generous donation for kids like ours, especially over Christmas. I read Josh's story and some of the updates and I know you truly understand what it is like to be in our shoes! Nothing more painful than seeing your sweet child sick and in the hospital. Please know that your gift was such a bright spot in our day here and we are so grateful. Thank you for taking the time to help others!

My son was at Children's yesterday getting an MRI. He was diagnosed in February with three new brain tumors and this MRI will determine our next steps in treatment. My son turned six last week and had a fireman birthday. The nurses brought in a Paw Patrol UNO fireman card game for him and he was so excited!! I want to thank you for doing what you do. What a wonderful tribute to your son.

My 2-1/2 year old twin boys had a four night stay at St. Elizabeth in February 2016 with RSV. It brought back a lot of scary memories from their 4 month NICU stay when they were born at just 23 weeks gestation. Our boys are actually part of a set of quintuplets that were conceived through mild fertility treatments. We lost three of our five precious babies within 3 months, having buried two of them in Omaha. My heart aches for any family that has had to deal with the loss of a child no matter the stage of pregnancy or age of the child. Your story and generosity through the donation of toys to our boys is truly inspiring and has encouraged me to share my own story so that it might help someone else reeling from the pain of loss. Thank you so much for passing along Josh's memory to other kids fighting in the hospital.

My son was born at St. Elizabeth on January 25, 2016. He was born through emergency C-Section because he went into Cardiac arrest during my labor. The nurses and doctor revived my son and he was diagnosed with H.I.E (A condition of the brain when it goes without oxygen or blood for a certain amount of time) he was without oxygen for 10 minutes. He had a seizure during that time as well, and now has some scar tissue in his brain. He was placed in the NICU for 10 days and made a miraculous recovery from all of it. In his room there was this beautiful blanket in there that said it was donated in memory of your son and I absolutely love the blanket. I decided to check out the website that was on it and I'm touched by your story and I'm very sorry for your loss. Your story has inspired me to do good and I think I will donate toys to your drive or whatever else you guys do. I hope you continue to inspire others :)

Our son, Jack (7) spent 5 days in the hospital last week for a bad infection in his arm. The nurses told us right away about Josh and quickly brought a Lego set for our son. Jack spent quite a bit of time on the floor putting together his new 'Loader and Dump truck'.
Thank you and please know that during our week in the hospital we thought about Josh and gave prayers of thanks for his gift to the kids coming in to St E's.

The last weekend in February my twin boys were both hospitalized at St. E's in Lincoln. They had been there about 2 days when I asked if there were any toys that they could play with. As you know, it's tough entertaining 1 year olds, let alone in a hospital setting. They were so bored! The nurse brought in a "Little People" Boat. That boat helped us through our stay and they play with it in the tub at home. I am so sorry for your loss, but what you are doing in Josh's memory is so inspiring. Thank you so much!!

This morning, my son and I returned home from St.E's after being there since Monday. He had pretty serious dehydration from complications with the flu. We just arrived home from a procedure our 10 month old baby girl Paizley had done today. Upon leaving we got to pick out a toy for her to take home that was in memory of Josh. Thank-you for sharing so much with others and for your generous hearts donating the toys to make others happy. God bless you!

First of all, I want to say how sorry I am for your loss. Josh was a beautiful little boy with so much happiness in his eyes! I know this is a different entry from all the rest, but this is how I came to know about Josh... I walk almost every night in the Mahoney Park area. I started walking the cemetary on the corner because I find it so quiet and peaceful. You can always get a good prayer in there! :) For some reason, I always found myself walking by Josh. Now I make a point of going up there to say Hello every once in a while. It's been in the back of my head that I needed to go online and find out more about him. I'm glad that I did! He was so strong and your whole family is truely an inspiration to all of us.

I will definitely make a point of donating to Josh's toy drive before Christmas!
God Bless you and your family!

This afternoon we came home from a 24 hour stay at St. E's with our four year old daughter who had become dehydrated after having her tonsils and adenoids taken out. Shortly after checking into the hospital room the nurse gave our daughter colored pens and a notepad - a gift from Josh. The nurse continued to tell us about your brave son and with tears in her eyes told us how he inspired everyone he met. Although our daughter loved the gift I just couldn't help but think why is this family who lost so much giving to us who should be out of the hospital in a day or so? God is clearly working through your family to show us all what unconditional love is, the importance of giving and how wonderful God intended us all to be. Thank you so much for your devotion to making making sick kids smile and keeping Josh's wonderful spirit alive! May God bless your family and keep you in His and Josh's loving arms.

Sincerely,

Kathy

I really shouldn't have looked or read this at work. I'm a mess now. I want to thank you for your gift donations to the Peds department at St. E's in Lincoln, NE. During November, 2009 our 2 year old daughter Hailey was admitted to the hospital. She had been throwing up every 15 - 30 mins for the entire day. She didn't eat anything or drink anything so they admitted her to keep her hydrated. She was such a tough little girl. Didn't even cry when they stuck her for her IV. She was so sick. She was admitted on a Wednesday, and on Sunday night she was able to eat. We thought she'd be able to go home on Tuesday. Sunday night comes around and she threw up again. I called my husband (who was spending his time with us at the hospital and at home with our other two children) and I was broken. I just wanted to take her home and we had a set back. Through all the tests they couldn't find out what was wrong. After a quick trip home to shower and eat, I return to find that they were putting in an NG tube! She was a trooper. Cried, but didn't fight them. When they were done, she said "Please don't do that again." On Monday night, my husband told me to stay at home and he'd stay with Hailey as I hadn't sletp in our bed since Tuesday night and I was exhausted. Tuesday morning, I went to work only to be on the phone every 10 mins with my husband because Hailey again had taken a turn for the worse. My boss sent me home and I went straight to the hospital. After talking with family members, I decided to get "tough" with the doctors. Really demanding more answers and "ACTION" to find out what was wrong, as it was now 1 week since she had eaten or drank anyting. We decided to do a laproscopy of her abdomen. "Go in and look around. Fix what we can, or get a diagnosis of what's making your little girl so sick." We were told the procedure would take 45mins to an hour. Two hours and 30 mins later they finally called. Her appendix had burst (they thought about a week ago) and so they were cleaning her up and they'd be done in about an hour. She was doing fine they just wanted to make sure they cleaned everything really good. THANK GOD!!! Finally, we knew what was wrong. It wasn't that this was over looked. They pushed on her stomach, tapped it, massaged it, and what would've brought a man to his knees in agonizing pain, just made our little girl say "my tummy hurts" no tears, no tantrums, nothing. She's so tough. Well, after her surgery, she had to have a PIC line put in and had that surgery done the next day. She became very anemic so she then needed a blood transfusion. After that, she became allergic to her antibiotics and was sent up to Omaha. There they found that the surgeon missed a fecal lithe and so the infection was still in her abdomen. After stronger antibiotics and constant monitoring, she started getting better. She wanted to play. She wanted to see the babies on the floor. She wanted cookies! My baby was getting better. She spent a total of 23 days in the hospital between Thanksgiving and Christmas. After her blood transfusion, she was given a toy with Josh's name and website on it. I immidately wanted to tell you thank you! It was a baby. She loves babies! I apologize for taking so long to write and thank you. In the extreme chaos of everything, I miss placed the tag. Cleaning out her toybox, I found it! I am so sorry your outcome wasn't the same as ours. I litearlly cannot breathe when I think of what I would've felt if we wouldn't have been able to bring Hailey home. Thank you again. And my God bless you and your family with continued strength.

I wanted to stop by and say our daughter was rushed to the hospital on Friday and after getting her all "hooked up and poked" she received a toy from Josh. Needless to say this kept her busy and happy the whole time we were there~and being 2 that is saying a lot! I am so touched that after the most incrediable loss a parent can face that you have the strength to keep sharing his love and happiness with other children. God bless you and your family and know that your kindness is reaching lots of people........and Josh's courage lives on through each one of them,Sophia Jo being one of them:) Although her hospital stay was only 24 hours(thankfully)that toy means so much to her!

Dear Brestel Family,
We wanted to say Thanks again for your awesome donations. Aidan had been in the hospital right before Christmas and received toys in Josh's honor. Well, we were there last week again and the nurses supplied him with hours of entertainment through Josh's donations. As you know its hard to entertain a little person in one room when they are grounded with IVs. I only fear he will begin to think its fun to go to the hospital because of Josh's generosity. We sincerely appreciate your gifts and keep you and Josh's memory in our prayers.

I wanted to say Thank You so much for the blanket that my baby got on christmas morning. It was the perfect gift. Logan is 7 months old and had to have surgery the day before christmas because he had an intussessception. It was very scary and I saw Josh's name on the blanket and I have been thinking of him since. I finally found the website and wanted to tell you how much it meant to me. We are at St. E's and will hopefully be taking Logan home tomorrow. So Thank You so much.

Dear Brestel family,
Thank you from the bottom of our heart for the many gifts our daughter Vivienne was able to wake up with this morning. She is 7 weeks old and was having trouble breathing on her own. When she is older, I will tell her of her 1st Christmas spent in the hospital, and the special children and families who need our love. Looking at the page about Josh brought tears to my eyes, but also put a smile on my face because he is watching over us all. God Bless you and your family.

Dear Josh, I wanted to say thank you from the bottom of out hearts. Sophia is 3yrs old and has type 1 diabetes. She was diagnosed at 21mths. Sophia has been in and out of the hospital 19 times. On monday night Sophia got sick and had to be rushed to Children's hospital from our home in Lincoln. We have been here every since. Sophia is apart from her two big sisters and 2 big brothers and her daddy. As a mother I was worried how she would handle spending Christmas here. When we woke up this morning I saw a smile on her face that I have not seen in a long time and thought I would not see again. It is all because of you and your tremendous heart. I know that your mommy is vary sad today not having you with her. I want you to hug her and be with her now that you are finished giving to all these wonderful children. You have done God's work and now it is time to be with your family. I will never forget you and will always have you and your family in my prayers.

We wanted to send a BIG Thank You for all of the great stuff our son Aidan received during his stay at St. E's. He was admitted for asthma and we got to come home this morning. He was so excited to play the games and draw with his new markers. You brightened his Christmas so much because he was sure Santa wouldn't find him. Josh would be proud beyond words of your selflessness and kind offerings.

My favorite pic still carried in my heart, the little boy in the bit black cowboy hat. Josh that picture is with me when I visit in D.C. It helps to give me courage, to remind me of why I am there, so that brave little boys shouldn't have to be sooo brave or so strong. So that families don't have to have hearts hurt so. So that all in the battle can win here on earth. Praying for those who love Josh.

Dear Josh,
I love you with all of my heart and while I was looking at your site I wrote a poem. Here it goes:

Whenever I see pictures of you I smile,
But sometimes all I want to do is cry.

I know I should be brave,
And I do try.

But without you,
I don't know how to.

So when I think of you,
I don't think of the bad or the good.

I think about the times when I was with you,
And the times you would smile all of the while.

I know you're happy now,
Although I freight.

I won't see you in a while,
At least not yet.

I miss you Josh everyone loves you.
Stay strong Steve, Diane, Jess, and Tyler.

Hi Diane and Jess,
I have visited the page before but not signed in. I saw you signed in on someone's page and saw a pic of Jess with my kids from CureSearch pics on the same day and it made me think of you guys a lot. Jess and Ali were so nice with my kids, Kailey just loves them. She has made three pictures for them each, but I told her I didn't have an address to send them too. It was nice to meet the Rech family, and everyone at RTD, I wish we could have met also. I am glad Kris and family is coming for a visit, tell them I said Hey. We posted Wyatt's pic on Hollyn's site too. Hollyn is doing great and looking forward to school, and playing soccer. Her next scans are Oct. 7. The dance sounds like a blast! Wish we lived closer to attend! Jess, good luck with volleyball and school. Jorie does cheerleading and gymnastics, with so much practice it makes me wonder wear will she fit in the homework?? Yes, I did say the "H" word! I hope you have an awesome school year, and thanks for throwing that dance, it is an awesome thing! YOu are a spectacular young lady, and I am so glad we got a chance to meet! So who are you dressing up as? You know Hollyn would go as Hannah Montana...probably. We are on our 6th day of being at St. Elizabeth's in Lincoln with our 7 year old daughter Sydney who aquired an infection from what we thought was a bug bite. She had been especially fearful and anxious about procedures when a nurse brought a toy today that was donated in memory of Josh. Our nurses have been so wonderful to make our stay better and having gifts to give is such a wonderful idea. Missed you in D.C., saw Josh's beautiful big sister, but missed the rest of his family. YAY it is done, being signed, moving forward. Our local paper had an article this week about my county having the most cancer, guess what all adults. UGH I wrote a letter to the editor. About September, the bill, etc. Two new Wilms warriors 15 mos old one in March, the other May, in this county. But overlooked by the papers. Hello:
I said hi to you at the walk. I was the person passing out 800 flyers for the CCCA bill. I just found your website after visiting Sadie's. I have been on Team Unite working with Kate from CureSearch for a few months. Are you going to Reach the Day in DC this week? I can't go as we have four kids and two are in summer school and another one just got back from a trip. I was wondering who the team leaders were for NE. I have met many of the team leaders on cb sites while working on the bill, many who are in DC now. Just stopping by to say hi and thanks for all you are doing to get the bills passed.

Hi There! Christy Rhine forwarded an email from you to me about the Curesearch Walk and the Wilms Initiative. We have formed a team named Rachael's Rainbow in honor of our 9 year old daughter, Rachael who was diagnosed with stage 4 favorable Wilms tumor on May 29, 2007. She completed her treatment on Jan 29, 2008. We would like the money that Rachael's Rainbow team raises to be designated for the Wilms Initiative research. My email address is ljhueftle@msn.com. God Bless You for all your help for our wonderful children. Sincerely, Lori Hueftle (Hef-lee)

Autumn still likes to send her ballons to Angel Josh throughout the year and I hope he enjoyed them. I hope the toy drive goes well. what a great way to honor Josh.

Hi, Josh.

It's three years since you went to live with Jesus. I know that doesn't mean much to you - even if time worked the same way in Heaven as it does here, you would be having to much fun playing non-stop with Mamie and the other children to notice the passage of time. There are too many things to see and hear that are more beautiful than anything we can imagine.

Usually it is the grownups who have to explain to the children that unpleasant times will pass and things we think we just can't wait for will be here before we know it. When our work on earth is finished, we will understand, as you do now, that our time of separation is very short compared to eternity together without pain, fear, or sadness.

It has been a month already since our Haunted Holiday. Time flys.

We will always grieve for the loss of our children. I know that we both know that grief is a never ending journey. There is no end. And no two people take the same path. But without the grief, and the memories we wouldn't have those special moments that bring us comfort, joy and peace. I think that you would both do a great job for Mourning Hope.

I was so hoping that we would have Diane with us for the January meetings. And here I was thinking that after your surgery you would be able to eat Mexican with us. Steve and I are just going to have to have dinner at the Mexican restraunt without you! Tee Hee.

Jess we miss you, (Ya, and maybe Mom and Dad too) only a little over a month to go before we will be down. Jimmie maybe hunting that weekend so perhaps Bryce will also be making the trip......

We are going trick or treating in the residence halls at Winona State. Wyatt misses his big brother.....and Justin's refridgerator is on the blink and he needs food. For what I am not sure.

Happy Halloween! We love you.

God bless your family. My husband was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer last September (one day after his dad died of leukemia) and it has been such a struggle but just recently was diagnosed as in remission for now. He's only 54 years old. Cancer knows no age, gender, heritage or religous affiliates. Cancer makes victims of all of us. I cannot imagine what it would be like to loose a child. My thoughts & prayers are with your family and all those that are suffering from this terrible disease. May God bless you all.

It was a great pleasure to meet your family in D.C. I am in awe of you. You have not walked away from this battle or issue. You are fighting for those in the trenches. I will always have stored in my heart and mind a picture of a little boy wearing a BIG black cowboy hat and a big smile. That photo is the picture that caught my attention. That was a photo I had in my mind walking the streets of DC, that and several other children's, we need to get those weapons necessary to all the kids in this battle. Praying you get home safely and thanking God for the energy you bring to this effort.

Mamie had a favorite restaurant in every town. When we went to St. Jude we had to go to Macaroni Grill. For Children's Hospital in Birmingham it was Red Lobster.

Valentines...... To Heaven

This Valentine is not of the ordinary kind,
Its still filled with love...and blessings inside;
But mine has to be sent on the wings of love...
You see its destination is the Heavens above.

Its not being sent to my parents so dear,
For they are still with me each day of the year;
Its being sent to my child...who left earth so soon,
Who's now in the Heavens with the stars and the moon.

The message is the same as your valentine,
"I love you...my sweet precious child of mine;
My love is still deeper than the ocean is blue,
And its sent with hugs and kisses...from me to you."

"I know you are with me each and every day,
You listen as I talk to you...and hear what I say;
For that is one thing that disease cannot do...
...you'll always be apart of me...and me a part of you."

"I know God did not give you the awful disease,
Thank Him for His comfort He gives me...would you please?
I dont know what I would do without His undying love...
Sent to bereaved parents from the Heavens above."

"I know you are in the best of care,
But it's so hard for us left on earth to bear;
Could you put in a request from us left behind...
For God to send the knowledge..so a cure we can find."

"So that no other family has to go through this pain,
Our lives without you will never be the same;
When I get lonely I will look to the sky at night...
And see you shining down your big bright light."

I'm glad you are taking care of yourself. did you read on the Wilms Listserv what an on-line friend of Donna's did in honor of Gabe? I cried then too. So many caring and giving people. You are and will always be an inspiration to many!

Hey, just thought I'd contact you again - it's been a while. I was reminded to pop in and say hello after meeting an adorable little one with wilms tumour at the hospital the other day. Every time I meet these amazing kids, it reminds me of all the good work you are doing to fight wilms. Keep it up.

Merry Christmas Brestals,

I hope you have a good day tomorrow. Sounds like the toy drive was a success. I can only imagine the smiles on all those children. Molly and I wanted to come for Josh's b-day party but there was a fundraiser that afternoon for Mrs. Tripe, one of the teacher's at ST.Cecilia. She had a stroke and is being rehabilitated at Madonna. You were in our thoughts though.

Happy Holidays,

Dear Mr. Hallmark,

I am writing to you from heaven, and though it must appear,
A rather strange idea, I see everything from here,
I just popped in to visit, your stores to find a card,
A card of love for my parents, as this day for them is hard,
There must be some mistake I thought, every card you can imagine,
except I could not find a card, from a child that lives in heaven,
they are still a parent too, no matter where I reside,
I had to leave, they understand, but oh the tears they cried,
I thought that if I wrote to you, that you would come to know,
that though I live in heaven now, I still love my parents so,
they talk with me, and dreams with me, we still share laughter too,
memories are our way of speaking now, would you see what you can do?
my parents carry me in their heart, their tears they hide from sight,
they plants flowers in my garden, there my living memory dwells,
they writes to other grieving parents, trying to ease there pain as well,
so you see Mr. Hallmark, though I no longer live on earth,
I must find a way, to remind her of her wondrous worth,
they need to be honored, and be remembered too,
just as the children of the earth will do,
thank you Mr. Hallmark, I know you will do your best,
find a way to tell them, how much they mean to me,
until I can do it for myself, when she joins me in eternity.

I know Christmas must be so hard for you although I can't comprehend how difficult it must be.

All my love,

Viks

It was so nice of you to sign Hannah's guestbook, Diane. I just visited your site this weekend but didn't have time to sign. I love the poem that you put up, and I am sure no one cares that it has been up before. It bears repeating. I have never met Josh, but I have to confess that every time I see his beautiful face and your family, it brings me to tears that he is gone. He is such a compelling child. Would it be OK to add his address to Hannah's "my story" page? Thanks for continuing to keep his memory alive. I think it is wonderful that you are collecting toys again this year for his birthday. I am sure he is smiling down from heaven. Keeping you in our thoughts.

Dear Steve, Diane, Jess and Tyler,

It has been awhile since we've talked. Know that Molly and I think of you everyday. You will be in our thoughts especially today. I think this is wonderful what you are doing in memory of Josh. I would like to do something in memory of Addie but my mind is so fogged and I wish I would get past this. I've talked to the school, I guess that is a start. I hope you guys had a nice Thanksgiving. Our lives are different now without our sweet angels.

BB season has started and Molly had her 1st game last night. They won, 42-29. We travel to Columbus tonight. From here on out we will be very busy with BB.

Keep in touch and I hope you feel warm Josh "fuzzies" today. I know you will.

Hey Buddy,

I can't believe it's been 2 years. We miss you so much! You would be proud of your Mom, Dad, Jess & Tyler. I know the pain is so fresh and they hurt but they are always there to listen and talk about you. For a four year old, we sure do have a lot of stories! When we shop, we see things that you would like or things that remind us of you. When we eat Applebees, we remember steak & the dessert you shared with your mom! When I get in my car, I see the blue three-wheeler you would ride in our driveway - you would put on the red batting helmet and ride right in the middle of the "big" kid's basketball game! When I see Griff, I remember how brave you tried to be around him, but how HUGE he is and how you would gladly go with me to the back door to let him outside.

I remember two years ago like it was yesterday. My last vision of you will not be how sick you were at the end; it will be how at peace you were in your mom's arms like the angel you are!!

We love & miss you Josh!

Diane, Steve, and Jess...

I woke up this morning visualing the many pictures I have in my head of Josh, namely one of my favorites, the one of him in the black cowboy hat. There are so many dates that stay with us, and today is one of them. Dec 1 will not be the same for me, as I always have a special place in my heart for Josh and your family.
I'm thinking of you today, and all the balloons Autumn sends to Angel Josh (he got a white one last week!)

Josh, Brooke and Haley have been in my thoughts. Such beautiful angels, who taught many about the power of love and the impact of what a terrific smile can have on a persons heart. When I think of Josh, I always think of Carter as well. They are alot alike. Can you imagine what steadfast friends they too would be?

I just want you to know that we are thinking about all of you, that we remember that sweet face and smile, and hope that those precious memories that you hold dear to your heart are a comfort to you and that they bring you peace in the next dificult days.

Love and hugs to all of you! Jess, wait to you see what Jimmie ordered you for Christmas, LOL, it is a hoot! Call me if you need an ear to listen.

The poem left me with an ache in my heart for you, Diane, Steve and Jess...thank you. I need that ache to remind me not to take Alex's gift for granted, as I anticipate we will do as he gets farther out from treatment. I guess it's natural, but we will come here and to other pages and remember your sweet baby boy and the fight he put up to try and stay with you. He is NEVER forgotten, you guys. Even those of us who never did meet him keep him in our hearts. Now he has the most to be thankful for; a loving family who holds him close in their hearts and his gift of freedom from a body that just couldn't be fixed by anyone on this earth. I hope this Thanksgiving was filled with smiles and warmth and laughter in Josh's honor.

Prayers that Friday will be filled with a supernatural peace.

Love and hugs,

My Son Lives in Paradise

The dust has settled on the things
That I have stored away
A favorite toy, for little boy
A jar of dried out clay.

A photograph when you were young
Sits quietly on the shelf
Thoughts of you come drifting back
I just can’t help myself.

A drawing that you made for me
When you were very small
Is framed within this heart of mine
And hangs upon the wall.

A scrapbook lies within the room
Where you once laid your head
Your favorite book, a model car
The pillow on your bed.

I miss you coming in from school
“Hey mom, it’s me, I’m home”
I miss the little words and hugs
The special times we’ve known.

A part of me just disappeared
The day you went away
An empty space now fills my heart
There are no words to say.

A closet filled with memories
Of happy days gone by
A baseball cap and souvenir
Why did you have to die?

The trophies that you won at school
Stand proudly on display
Your many friends can’t understand
Why God called you away.

I hear your voice within the halls
It echoes in the night
I see you in the evening mist
And in the morning light.

So many things you left behind
Are now a memory
But little arms that held me tight
Will always stay with me.

An empty space now fills my heart
My boy, my child, my son
You’ve gone into another world
Where golden dreams are spun.

I do not know the answers
It‘s not for me to know
But I will know the truth one day
Just why you had to go.

My turn will come to leave this world
I’ll gaze into your eyes
God’s perfect plan will be revealed
Up there in paradise.

Wow, you got a happy birthday wish in Italian! Cool! I only really know Spanish, so I'll add to it: Feliz Cumpleanos! :) Have a great day and busy weekend full of fun! You're officially a teenager! Congratulations! You now have permission to get lots of zits, cry uncontrollably for absolutely no reason, alternately hate and love your best friend and family, and shoot up into a gorgeous young woman. Phew. Takes a lot out of ya, so sleep late whenever you can!! :) I can say this, because I am gearing up for Stephanie to be 13 in January. Let me know how it goes for you, ok, Jess? I, as a mom, might need some suggestions on things NOT to say, (like the litany I just gave you) to my daughter! ha!

Have a BEAUTIFUL BIRTHDAY, Jess!! Give your mom a big hug for me, ok?

BUON COMPLEANNO JESS!

Now, I bet that is the only Happy Birthday wish in Italian you will get!

We are all thinking of you, and were wondering when might be a good time to deliver our birthday treats. From your update it looks like Sunday might be better.

Have fun with your friends tonight...good luck in the volleyball game...and so on and so forth.

I will give you a call to find out when we could come by!

HAPPY 13!

Add Another early Very Happy Birthday to Jess! I just came seem to get to all the CB pages on time anymore (too many lil ones being dx).

Life w/a teenage. Oh what joys! But again, I'd take 100 teens to not losing a child. Teen years can be a long & trying time - but I know u and Jess with fly thru the years! (Laurel will hit teen years when I hit menopause - talk @ fun time!)

Just wanted to let you know I'm always thinking of your family!

I thought I'd better wish Jessica a happy birthday now or I'll miss it. Too bad about being a teenager, though. They tell me I was a teenager once, but you can't believe every thing you hear.

Hi friends. We miss you. Seems like there are not enough hours in the day to do all that needs to be done, or all I would like to do. I saw this poem and wanted to share it with you.

Love,

MEMORIES OF MY SON

Pictures of yesterday, happened upon.
Sweet, precious pictures of you, my son.
They're from a time that can't be erased.
And my heart fairly breaks as I gaze on your face.

Stirrings arouse in me...words can't explain.
I want to go back, but I can never again.
Such a sweet pleasant child, how I wish you were here.
To reassure me with hugs and your own special cheer.

To see your beautiful smile just one more time.
And hear that you love me, would make everything fine.
Though I yearn for all this. I know it can't be.
Oh God, why on earth did this happen to me?

The pain of losing you is so hard to bear,
I hurt so badly, does anyone care?
This is not what was supposed to be,
I want and need my son; can't you see?

I want to love him and care for him and have lots of fun.
And I'm sad, because those days will never come.
Instead, a precious life was cut chort,
Four years of memories are my moral support.

I'm trying to live--day by day.
How can I do this? I wish it weren't this way.
This love for you is mine to keep;
Pain is the price for the love so deep.

You're with me every day, you live in my heart
And none of this will ever depart.
I'll look at your pictures, and remember with love,
Because you're at peace now...with God above.

Diane, I'm glad this month has good memories to go with the bad. so we never forget the date of diagnosis. So strange the dates that run thru our heads. I so admire you for your fundraising and awareness raising efforts! I need to learn from you.

I will be helping Chair one of the committes for the ACS Relay for Life here in town - as I don't have the wherewith all or knowledge to start a CureSearch group. I guess every little bit counts.

Thinkinf of you and Josh. And good luck w/the teenage years (eeeks). I got one out of the house, and the other is looking forward to getting out soon too.

Hi Diane, Steve and Jess,

I have not forgotten you guys. I always think of you. As you know, I go through the emotions and sometimes just don't have the energy to write.

Happy Belated Birthday Steve. How old again? :-)

I hope school is going well for you Jess. I bet you are glad to have Tyler in Lincoln. We'll miss him here in Hastings and his painted car so you will have to keep an eye on him and keep him from being so onry.

Molly started school on the 23rd. It is nice to get back into a routine. She went out for golf this year and so far is having fun. She'll start up dance next week which she'll be gone four nights a week. She'll turn 16 on the 6th. Oh no!!! It's making me nervous but will be good for her to get herself around. She wants to get a job too. When will she find time for homework?????

I wish Josh and Addie were here to enjoy the school days but God has made other plans for them. Still doesn't take our pain away.

Love your new pictures.

If you ever travel back to Hastings you better call. No pressure or anything. We don't get to Lincoln much but if we travel that way we will be sure to call.

Keep in touch and always you are in our prayers.

Much love, Cindy and Molly

Mommy, I dreamed you a letter
This comes from Heaven above
Even though I’m up here
I can still feel your love
In Heaven there is no sorrow
There’s never any pain or fear
And would you believe I’ve not been sick
One time since I’ve been here?
You’d be so proud of me, Mommy
I can do so many things
And everyone says I look real cute
In my Halo and my wings
Every year at Christmas
We have a great big tree up here
And guess who gets to be the Angel
On top of the tree this year
Mommy, I dreamed you this letter
That I’m sending you tonight
To tell you not to worry
And let you know that I’m all right
Sometimes I hear you crying
And I wish you weren’t so sad
Cause I think you’re the best Mom
Any Angel ever had
So please don’t feel bad for me
I’m in God’s tender care
And he wanted me to tell you
That he hears your every prayer
I know you miss me, Mommy
You know I miss you too
But remember, me and God
Are always watching over you
We want you to have a good life
Full of happiness and joy
I’ll see you in your dreams, Mommy
Love, Your Little Boy

Glad you are keeping busy, and I remember the toy drive and thinking what a wonderful way to remember and give back, we felt good about the best shot, I know I will be in your shoes on August 25th, the first day of school, the day we thought Kyle would be going to kindergarten, but is not, it is amazing how you strive to live life for them and make it right with your children that are still here, but trying to keep the memory alive because you don't want anyone to forget what great kids they are and how strong they were and what fighters, I will always remember all the angels and keep praying that you continue to celebrate in Josh's honor, all these kids are truly amazing!!! Love to you all!!!

We have been busy working on the house. Ali's room is going to be "tart apple." Jimmie told her that with a color that bright she will need to keep her door closed! LOL

We had a great time at the water park, and made it back for the game. Justin's Legion team won Wed. and again last night. They will play again tonight. Forecasts predict near 100 degree weather again for today. We could use a water park excursion!~

Hi there! Just stopping in to check on you and thank you for all the work you are doing with Cure Search. I think of you all often and hope its ok that I like to think that Josh and Haley sometimes look in on Tess down here and give her the boost she needs to make it through the harder days.

Okay we took a vote here and we think you should move to Minnesota. What do you think? Ya....I know wishful thinking. I am so glad that last week is over. Still waiting to here on our offer on the 1st house. We upped our bid, but have not heard if the bank will accept it. Looks like closing around the first will be out of the question.

Hope you are having good weather, and Jess is winning some soccer games. We miss you, and maybe the 3rd isn't out of the question.

Hello Brestels,

Just stopping by to say hello and that we are thinking of you...Diane, we pray you've had a nice Mothers Day in celebration of your babies, both here and in heaven above...Nothing will ever change the fact that you are an awesome mom and have shown us all more dignity and love as you mothered your children. Your little man Josh will NEVER be forgotten~
I'm sad to say I'll be missing out on Gold Ribbon Days, I was really looking forward to meeting each of you *sigh* We'll be praying for you as you take this courageous trip to keep fighting in Josh's memory and for all kids fighting the beast...

A Mother's Day Wish From Heaven
By Jody Seilheimer

Dear Mr. Hallmark,
I am writing to you from heaven,
and though it must appear
A rather strange idea,
I see everything from here.

I just popped in to visit,
your stores to find a card
A card of love for my mother,
as this day for her is hard.

There must be some mistake I thought,
I saw every card you could imagine
Except I could not find a card,
from a child who lives in heaven.

She is still a mother too,
no matter where I reside
I had to leave, she understands,
but oh the tears she's cried.

I thought that if I wrote you,
that you would come to know
That though I live in heaven now,
I still love my mother so.

She talks with me, and dreams with me;
we still share laughter too,
Memories are our way of speaking now,
would you see what you could do?

My mother carries me in her heart,
her tears she hides from sight.
She writes poems to honor me,
sometimes far into the night

She plants flowers in my garden,
there my living memory dwells
She writes to other grieving parents,
trying to ease their pain as well.

So you see Mr. Hallmark,
though I no longer live on earth
I must find a way to remind her
of her wondrous worth.

She needs to be honored,
and remembered too
Just as the children of earth will do.

Thank you Mr. Hallmark,
I know you'll do your best
I have done all I can do;
to you I'll leave the rest.

Find a way to tell her,
how much she means to me
Until I can do it for myself,
when she joins me in eternity.

Dear Diane,

I am a day late...but still wanted to let you know I thought so often of you yesterday. I wanted to get a note to you on time...but regretfully the day got away from me.

So, better late than never, please know that many thoughts and prayers are with you to help you through each day, and especially holidays, like yesterday. May you continue to feel the strength that Josh provides for you to carry on, and be such a wonderful person, who helps so many others.

With sincere affection...all of my best to you.

Hi Diane...
I wanted to come by and offer my love to you..and let you know I'm thinking of you today. You are an incredible, wonderful person. I can only imagine the wonderful mother you are. Josh was so blessed to have you. I know you'll meet again, even though it seems so far away. THen you'll have an eternity of Mother's Days and birthdays and every other holiday to be together. I hope that's a real place of hope for you in your heart and not just a "wish I could feel like that" kind of thing to say. Anyway, I know you understand that I mean it very sincerely and love you much.

Hi Diane,

Thank you for the info. Molly and I will be sure to make a story with pictures of Addie to send to you. Thanks for signing the guestbook. We will be thinking of you tomorrow also. Happy Mother's Day. We are planning on stopping by for the reception for Tyler. Molly and I made cards for all the graduations. Molly is going to a bunch of receptions tonight but I have to go to Superior for one of my childhood friend's daughter's graduation. I hope Jess did well at her soccer game. It was healing to share stories about Addie and Josh with Steve at the track meet.

Take care and have a safe trip to Hastings.

I wish I could be there to help make a difference but I know that you all are going to represent for us that won't be there. Diane,
Thanks for the support as I know you know the pain so deep in your heart you yourself could almost die. I think about our angels all the time, all the angels, but like Mike and I have said before, your heart and your head are not on the same page, we miss him so much, as I know you miss Josh, your head says yes, they are no longer suffering, yes they are in a better place, but your heart says no, a better place would be with us to see, feel, and hear them. I realize this takes a long time, but it feels like it will never get better, thinking of you always, and waiting until June, to connect with the greatest families around!!

Hi Brestels,

Congratulations to the proud parents of a soon to be graduate. Have a safe trip to Hastings. Molly said she talked to you, Steve. She didn't have a good day but I told her we all have off days. She gets hard on herself because she knows she can do better but I told her it will just make her stronger in character. They have districts Thurs. in GI. I will be going over there. Will you be coming to town for the weekend or just Sunday? Diane, I used your site to write to Tom Osborne. I did it the other day and I received a letter from him in the mail yesterday. Awesome. I will write to the others also. I feel sometimes I am not quite as aware of everything as Addie was diagnosed and gone nine months later. It was all such a whirlwind. What is Gold Ribbon Days? I think its great you all get to go do whatever it is to give a voice for our children and all the other kids.

Thinking of you with continued prayers.

Hi Diane and Steve,
Josh was/is so amazing, and so are you guys. I'm so glad you guys who have lost little ones are in such close touch...it must be like having family when you can grieve together and lift each other up. Did you know Josh went to heaven on Carson's birthday? He turned 3 when Josh got his "birth" into heaven. It has been so good to know you and I am excited (and scared a little) for June. Scared to have the awesome responsibility of being an ambassador of sorts, but excited, of course, to see you again, and meet new friends.
I hope you are having a good week. Thanks for keeping up with Alex.

Hi Diane and family...just stopping in to say hi. I was reading more on Curesearch and since you are going I was wondering if I could get Gage's story together and send it with you. They suggested leaving many stories if you can attend so thought I could at least get Gage's to you, maybe a few more too to leave on the Senator's desk. I am sorry the days are still hard...kind of scares me for the future. I hate to watch all these kids pass on from cancer weekly and seems like daily lately on Caringbridge. It is just so sad because all us "angel families" know the pain and just how hard it is. I hope late spring and summer bring you all some sunshine and smiles. Angel mom hugs to you all,

Hi Diane, Steve & Jess,

I've been trying to write all week. I got Darby a message this morning. Between work and being a taxi driver for Molly, I have little time to myself but wouldn't have it any other way for now. We too, we're happy to finally get to meet you guys. I loved our visit. Sunday was another healing process. Very hard but glad we did it. Molly said she enjoyed going and wish we would visit more often. When you are younger everything seems a little easier until you get older and know what reality is all about.

The boys and girls had their track meet in Centura today. I was suprised but Molly called and said it wasn't raining there. She did say the Freshman and Sophomore Track Meet did get cancelled tomorrow in Loop City. I was going to go that one. Oh, well.

We always think of you guys and angel Josh. I'm not always good at writing but told myself I need to do a better job. Keeping you in our prayers.

I read Paula's entry & I'm wondering what in the world she is drinking over in Iowa?? I know they say...Nebraska the Good Life, but I truly feel that there is a lot of other places to go than here, she is so crazy!!! I'm sure the reason is that she would love to be closer to us, I don't know-maybe the sign is that we should all move to IOWA(I'm sure Steve is okay with that, right?). I do know that Kris won't be headed to see us all that often if we go there, cuz I'm sure she couldn't afford the tickets:)

It has been way too long since I have left a message in the guestbook. I have visited Josh's page quite a few times, and have enjoyed all of the recent updates. I wanted to thank Jess for the message she left at my office...you are cool too Jess!

I am sure the weekend was bittersweet for you all. We all were often thinking of you. As I was reading a story to my kids about Jesus and his love for children I could only think of how much Josh is enjoying that love.

Looking forward to the next opportunity to be together. We hope to make a soccer game in May...these next two weekends are too busy. But we will surely find time in May!

Thoughts and prayers are with you all, as always!

This is my first visit to Josh's site. It is a wonderful tribute to him and the other children we have been blessed to know and love.

Tonight we remember how suddenly Jesus' disciples lost the loved one they had known for only three years. But He told them they would eat and drink together again in Heaven. It was hard for them to understand, but several of them went on to share the story so that we, too, can be sure of our reunion where there are no needles or surgery.

I am just having a hard time right now, just signed Haley's page and will be going to Brooke's next, as I told Patti, I do not understand this, I have faith and I know that a higher being is making me get up each day and function, but all these kids had amazing qualities that would have made a difference in this world, I wish I could understand and make sense of it, I guess I am having a moment and realizing the grief that Brooke's family is going through. Cannot wait to see you all in June and Mike and I still wish we could have talked with you both longer, you seem like old friends, always remembering Josh and our other Wilms angels!!

Hi Diane!
It was great to meet you and your husband (having a mental block..can't remember his name..ahh!!) but wish it had been under different circumstances, of course. I bet Kyle and Josh are having all kinds of fun up there while we do whatever is our purpose in life and go Home to be with them. :)
Hope to talk to you again, soon. We'll have to get a conference call together, so a bunch of us can talk!! Maybe we can get things together for the Gold Ribbon Days that way. hmmmmmm

Gotta run...thanks for being there and again, it was great to meet you!!!

Hugs,
Jen Scott

Hi Brestel family, stopping by to check up on you and tell you all hi. I am proud of all those standing up for childhood cancer too. I would like more information on who to write to and what specifically to say in the letter. More funding is definitely needed. I am sorry you guys are having a rough time too. We have our ups and downs...roller coaster ride of life I guess. Beau has a hard time being the only child and tells me so at least twice a week. I can't imagine their thoughts and pain as I never had to deal with it myself, but I know how bad it hurts on my side. I don't know Kyle or his family besides CB, but read, cry and pray right along so many others. Cancer is such a horrendouse disease. I hope to see at least childhood cancers wiped from this earth before my time is up. I continue to think of you all and please know if you ever need to talk or Jessica wants to talk with Beau...I know big age/gender gap but same pain. Hope your week gets better.

Hi Diane, Steve and Jess,

Thanks so much for coming by Alex's site. It's amazing what a community of loving friends can do for one another, this side of heaven. I can't believe what you've been through, what the Mathises have endured and what the Reeds are facing. I can never, truly, know the feelings you have right now...watching it happen again. It's not right, it's not fair and it's not from God, that much I'm sure of. I mean to keep on trying to thwart the plans Satan has to destroy us, emotionally and spiritually by attacking the body. We'll just keep getting stronger and turning it around for good, just like you are doing by going out and speaking out to Congress and everyone!!! WAY TO GO!!!! I want to lift you up and encourage you with Galatians 6:9 - I won't quote it. You go find it. :)

Love you guys! Josh is never forgotten!!!!
Love,
Jen

Hope all is well with you guys, there is not a day that goes by that I do not think about your family, I say many prayers, prayers for peace, prayers for cure, and I hope some of them are being heard, some I know are not but maybe some of the prayers are not meant to be. I admire your strength, (I hate when people say that to me so I cannot believe I am saying it), but I mean to keep fighting, you are still not giving up on the beast and I hope one day I will follow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Valentine sent to Heaven...truly beautiful...here's praying you've had a sweet reminder of your handsome young man this past week to let you know he's there. Ours was a safari visit--Katey received a tiger that says "wild about you." Take Care all of you, even Warm Hugs can come from the Cold Lands~

I thank you for the strength & courage to continue the battle for all the children fighting the beast! How caring & loving you are! Josh will never be forgotten - his presence will always be felt by many - even by those of us who never knew him.

Also, thank you for the valentine you sent Laurel! She loved the gift!

Well there is good news and there is bad news.....the good, NO, GREAT NEWS is you will be here this weekend HURRAY! The bad news is that before I left for the games yesterday my email contained weather advisories for Thursday. We are on the fringe, less than 5 miles, of a winter storm warning to the south of us. And overnight lows will be in the negative numbers over the weekend. BRRRRR..... So we will see if it holds true. I will call later today.
Ali's game is away, not a big deal it is in LeCenter which is only 10 minutes from our school. She is excited to see you, as are her friends to meet, or see Jess.
Hope you had a wonderful Valentines Day!
Love,
Kris

Hello Brestel Family,
Your update was great!! It is amazing how dedicated you are to research and funding, it really is where the emphasis needs to be. I am hoping that we are able to make it to GRD's this year and we can finally meet some of our fellow wilms families! You are all always in our prayers! The new puppy comes home in just 3 weeks, and will begin training shortly after to become a therapy dog for our children's hospital :)

God bless you all and enjoy your trip your always in our thoughts and we will never forget Josh!!!!!!!!!!
