Hello, My name is Randy and this message is for Nonni. I think I communicated with you a long time ago on another website. (when you were first getting the Lighthouse started) Anyway, my grandson (age 2) had Leukemia (acute lymphoblastic type T) He is now in full remission (age 3 1/2) and a normal little boy. I hope you see this message and I think you may remember us talking about it.

Hey. I just wanted to check in to see how you were doing since the Lighthouse. We enjoyed getting to spend the week with your sweet family. We are praying for you and can't wait to run it to you at WalMart or The Avenue. I wonder how long it will take since you guys are in PTC and we are in Newnan.

Take care,

Hello everyone. Jacob turned 6 yesterday and I just wanted to let you know how great he is doing. His port was removed recently and we've had lots of reasons to celebrate and be very thankful. We almost think of him now as a "regular" kid. Jacob will never be just a regular kid. He is very special.

Jacob,

Just 2 more months!!! That is awesome! I am SO happy for you! I was glad to get to see you at the Cure Picnic and see you doing so well. You had grown so much since the last time I saw you. I can't wait until October, 2007, when you get to walk across the stage at Off Therapy and say your name and that you've been off therapy for 11 months!! That will be a great day, too!

I hope school is going well this year. Also, I love the new pix on your site. Sis is really growing up, too.

Take care and I'll be checking in again very soon!

Hey Jacob,

It was so GREAT to see you Saturday at the Cure picnic. I will send you a pix of you and Cuddles via Jill as soon as I print the pix out. I couldn't believe how much you've grown. You look so big now! Cuddles was also very excited about getting to see you and to have a couple of pix made with you. I'm glad that all is going well with you. Good luck to you in school this fall. Don't act too excited about school because Mom will be so sad. :) Take care and hope to see you soon! Love ya!

Hi Jacob!
What a coincidence between you and Madie! She totally L-O-V-E-S this holiday that is coming up!
Halloween is Madie's most loved favorite holiday because she gets to dress up too! And, because she loves to dress up all the time anyway, she is just more thrilled there is a Holiday specially made for it!
:-)
She has her costume picked out too!
Aunt Sara is making her a Princess outfit.
Pumpkins are a favorite too---she can't wait to decorate. Personally, I think she just likes to scare people and yell "boo!".
Lots of love to you and your mom, dad, and sister!!

Hey Jacob,

I am so glad that you were able to get your big sister to help you give us an update. We've been wanting to hear from you. I am glad you are doing so well and congratulations on the anniversary of your 2-year mark. Way to go! We will have a big celebration at "Off Therapy" next year for you! :) You take care and tell everyone hello for me! Love you!

Hi guys!
I just hate to read about the mouth sores! Madie is so upset----she is really worried. Tell Jacob that Madie would come do anything to help to him! I just hate methotrexate with a passion (not that I know that is the culprit...)
I know about being busy, that is us here too!
And, I am so thrilled about the baby girl coming to your family! The time is going to fly by so fast!
We are sending prayers that Jacob can heal up fast and get the pain under control. And, especially that he does not get them again for the rest of his treatment plan.
Lots of hugs!! Lots of love!...............reg

I'm so sorry to hear about the miserable mouth sores .... NOT the greatest way on the planet to start school. But, if Jacob's determination to attend is any indication, he must really love it there, which is a wonderful thing. I'm glad to hear Jordan is enjoying hers as well .... take care!

I think about Jacob and all of the Caringbridge kids often. When you talked about adopting a daughter from China, I felt compelled to write. My husband and I have wanted to do this for a long time, but from the research I have done, many agencies will only take you if you have no kids already. Obviously you have kids. If you could tell me the agency you are working with, I would appreciate it. We have felt compelled to do this since visiting several years ago. Thanks, Amy

Tiffany, you must have been typing the update at the same time I was checking for it! Ok, a few points:

1) WOW! And Congratuations on the soon-to-be-new-arrival to your family!!! That is marvelous news and I am sure your entire family is thrilled --- can't wait to hear more about your new daughter!! How truly, wonderfully, exciting!

2) YIKES! A shark? You saw it swim up to the shore??? Eek! I don't think I'd have gone in the water after that, either.

3) YES! I hear you about the tattoos and things .. that's how I felt earlier this year in Seattle. Of course, it was spring, so there were no bikinis and butt-cracks showing, and way more Starbucks coffee than Budweisers, but it's definitely a vivid reminder that we are getting older, isn't it? :)

4) YAY! I'm so glad the vacation was fun. I'm still pouting about the Lighthouse, but holding out hope it might be rescheduled for later.

Thanks for updating!

Hallaleuah! I finally *found* your caringbridge address again. I had depended on the 'puter to save it for me and of course, it somehow got deleted! I knew it was jacob, just didn't have the "m" !

So glad we got to see you all at the puppet thing...wasn't it neat? Are you going to the Cure Family Picnic? I think we will brave the interstate again. It is just so worth it to see all the survivors and their great families!

Gotta go! I'm counting the days to Lighthouse...if Dennis and Emily have left it alone by the time we get there.

The eagle has left the building and should arrive next week sometime! I have to say, it nearly made it to the shipping store, as Jack fell in love with it all over again. But, he was happy to send it to Jacob.

Here's a hint: Jack says that Jacob likes tugboats, tankers, yachts, ships and cruisers, but not this type of boat... I think he will. We hope it brings him a smile.

God Made You For A Reason

When I look upon my screen
I find a happy reason
the joy that comes to me from you
is gratitude so very pleasing...

What a wonderful creator
that made a friend like you,
He placed a sweet kind person
and gave me lots of comfort too.

A world without your kindness
would be a sad sad world.

But I don't have to worry,
there's no need to be,
because of you I am very happy,
and that's good enough for me.

I've found great people everywhere,
they come into my life.
Just like you, all those others too,
have given me delight.

So I thank God I met you,
I thank him for all seasons.
Now I know for sure with all my heart,
GOD Created YOU for a reason.

Wow! I sure hope your Mom gets better very soon. I was getting worried about you all since I've not heard anything in so long. Now we know. Dad's in charge! That explains everything. :) Tell Mom to hurry and get better. Jacob and Jordan just hang in there and appreciate your Mom more when she does get better and start doing all those for you again that you've take forgranted. :) Take care!

Hope you have a great time at Disney, I will be down there too with a few friends from school. So if you see a Wildcat shirt just holler, haha, i wonder what the chances of that happening are!

I love the story about Jacob pulling down his pants in front of Ms. Spatz..I'm sure she laughed (and I'm sure you know that her laugh is very distinctive and contagious!). So..what will it be for lunch next Sunday..Chuckie cheese..Mac Grill? So many choices!! I hope you guys have a fantastic time in Disney! I know the kids will love it!

Hi Jacob - we saw the photos of you with your buddy Jack, (both so handsome both with and without hair!) and we're glad to hear you had such a great time at the circus! We also hear that you might like Spiderman almost as much as Sam, so we wanted to send you this Spidey picture (we hear he might be your honorary brother):

It was great seeing you guys at the circus yesterday -- I put a picture of the kids up on Kendrie's site. Jacob looks happy, despite the steroids, and Kendrie looks ok, depsite the never-ending tantrum she had been throwing all morning (and we don't even had steroids to blame!)

I will send you a private e-mail with my cell phone number so we can hopefully meet up at GKTW next week. I am so excited! :)

We've all shared those horrible nights. And, I think we've all thought about how we'd honor our kids if we had to. But, I quickly shudder those thoughts and move forward to the wonder of the day. Sunlight brings that to you, and sometimes, in the dark of the night, you have to bring that sunshine to your own spirit. It is so incredibly hard. But, hearing Jacob's sweet breath behind you, surely proves that HIS Spirit is lighting your path. We are so thankful for that.

Why is it that the most beautiful kids are chosen for this journey? Jacob is one of these most beautiful of all.

Hope he is feeling better every day. You are in our constant thoughts.

Oh gang, we have hardly gone near the computer lately, and we've missed so much with you! Where to begin. First, what an honor to have you represent us all with your Aflac speech. Thank you for what we're sure was a phenomenal expression of our love. Also, we jumped the gun several days ago thinking that Jacob had already been diagnosed with Fifth's disease. Sorry for that, and even more sorry for the yuck he has to suffer right now with it. To be on medication till spring is just wrong. It just makes you reel back and go, "Wow" for all our kids go through each day. Oh, Spidey, we're sending you huge hugs right now. But, we're also relieved to have a face for the yuckiness right now. The "R" word is one you will NEVER have to write. We believe that with all our hearts.

We're so sorry to have been Caringbridge delinquents lately (especially when you're the most awesome friends ever!). But, please know we love you dearly and pray for our hero everyday. Get better soon, big guy! We want to play!

Hi there Jacob and family,
Sometime last year I received an email from a friend in the Fayetteville area asking for prayers for a little boy named Jacob who was diagnosed with Leukemia. Could've those prayers been for you!? My friend knew I would be honored and would flood Heaven's gate with healing prayers...after all, my son needed those same prayers just one year before. Mitchell was diagnosed in 2002 with a rare form of bone cancer (osteosarcoma). He endured 18 rounds of intense chemotherapy along with an amputation of his left leg. Just a few months before Jacob was diagnosed I used to give Mitch IV pole rides on that AFLAC floor and Mitch would horse around the halls with Morris and the beautiful nurses (mitchell's words, not mine). I am sure Jacob's treatments are mainly in clinic, in that case, playing the arcade games are a must and slapping high fives with Dr. Rapkin (primary oncologist) are favorites within a visit.
We will check up on Jacob's progress and pray for complete healing.
God's Blessings,
Robin

Hey..guess what?
The principal of Whitewater High School was my principal at McIntosh when I was there. His name is Mr. Stillions. He is a great man..I'm sure you got to meet him. He rode in two 100 mile bike races for me when I was sick. I went to visit him during Christmas break, and he told me that the school would be doing the Pennies for Patients fund raiser. Mr. Stillions is a personal friend of mine, and so is his secretary Ms. Spatz who you may have met, AND so is the girl's basketball coach. The basketball coach's name is coach Pina and he was my coach a LONG time ago. So Jacob, if you ever want to go back to Whitewater..I got connections buddy. You would be welcome anytime..although I'm sure you'd be welcome without me there! I'm so glad you had fun!

Thank you for your kind messages in my guestbook..I am truly blessed to have such wonderful people reading my page. Also, thank you for adding my link to your page..what an honor! I definately want to meet you guys sometime..and sooner rather than later. I am hoping to come home in the next few weeks, and I will let you guys know when I'm in town. Maybe we can meet for lunch or something!

Best wishes..and big hugs!

We're so sorry Jacob is feeling so puny right now. It's always frightening to see them take such a dip like that in their health, so we can totally understand the stress you're feeling. Please know that we will pray diligently for this virus to pass through quickly and for great bloodwork otherwise. Hang in there, and thanks for the info. as well.

Love to you all, especially our buddy, Jacob,

Hi Jacob, I don't think I have ever signed your guestbook before, but your mommy's journal entry was very touching and real. I am not a cancer mom, but a cancer grandma. I am amazed at how close to my heart so many CB children are. It also amazes me how parents share the deepest part of their hearts and souls with this community. God bless you as you dance the dance. Sometimes the steps are hard, but your mommy is right on with her Garth Brookes quote. God bless you, Jacob

I am so sorry to hear the news about the virus! AACCKKK!!!
I know that all of Madie's counts sank with the Parvovirus/B-19 and she did need blood. She got down to 6.1 and was having headaches.

Wow -- a breathtaking entry. I've been thinking about the tsunamis so much in recent days, but felt so inadequate to even touch the subject. Gosh, how do you even compare cancer to a swell of water? I guess the common denominator could be the swell of emotion, pain, love, and yes, hope you feel in the aftermath. Thank you for such a beautifully poignant reminder.

On a lighter note, we just cracked up at your clinic story today. Girlfriend, we are peas in a pod! Can't wait for more quirky time for our boys to run around and play. And, if they forget their shoes, they can just run barefoot in the grass. Soon?

Love to our pal,

I talked to Kristin tonight, and she asked if I had checked your website today. I said that I hadn't today, and she said that I had to check it tonight. Boy am I glad that I did!! You are so right in what we say. It just seems that there get to be more and more kids and it is so hard to understand. We have to help each other and carry each other on this journey though. It's the road our lives have brought us to and it is so much easier when we help each other!

Wow! What a wonderful entry. I completely understand every single point you make and share your emotions so deeply. There is so much pain and grief, even when you have a good outcome, b/c somewhere, others don't. It's hard, but you are right that we have to share in it with each other and care for each other. We celebrate with each other and cry with each other. It's just what we do. Thanks for sharing your thoughts so eloquently!

Thanks for being so faithful in updating your journal. I look forward to getting out daily updates. I am so glad to hear how great Jacob is doing.

I was going through some of my picture last night and had several of Jacob at the Cure picnic at Briscoe Park this summer. Was the little girl in pink at the fish pond (pool) little Hayley? I had thought it was, but wasn't positive. I have tried to e-mail you at your address but my system keeps sending it back to me. If you would like me to send a copy of some of these pix to you all, just let me know. I would love to do so. I haven't got the Christmas Party ones developed yet. I hope there are some good ones of Jacob in there, too.

Hello Jacob,

I really do love the tree. It is beautiful. I loved getting to spend time w/ you and your family at the Cure Christmas party last week. We had a great time and hope you did, too. I was one of the ones who was hanging out w/ Cuddles taking pictures. I'm the one who took you all over the place looking for the sweet tea that you asked for with no luck. We did, however, find you some Sprite.

I first met you at the Off-Therapy Celebration at Six Flags this year. I couldn't believe how much you've grown and your hair has grown back so beautifully.

You are a very special little man and I will continue to be in prayer for you and your family. One day very soon, we will see you walk across the stage at Off-Therapy. I really do believe that!

Take care and have a very Merry Christmas!!

We told her it was for really special people, like you and Rosie, but she's still pouting. However, the only stocking that has been hung on the fireplace says C J, so she'll just have to deal with it. Tell Jordan hello and that we miss her - and hope to see both of you soon. Hi!

I'm Lauren, and my lil' bro Thomas has the same kind of cancer -ALL- Thomas had the same kind of episode that your son had. The doc's did not give us a definite diagnosis, but suggested Hypoglycemia. Turns out he got too dehydrated and then his body started producing Acetone on it's own. That's a fatal chemical found in things like windshield washer! They said to have the reaction he had, so severe, he would have needed to consume two lieters of it! We knew that was just not right, Thomas dosen't do stuff like that. So now we just monitor his fluid intake very closely, as we have found that if he isn't getting enough fluids, he will have an attack. Please let me know if your doc's find anything that may have caused the episode. Hope he is feeling better!

Hey All!
O.K., we're waiting for the update, because obviously you weren't planning on being at S.R. for Thanksgiving. We do hope everything is o.k. (though, it must be because you're home). We'll keep praying for icky bugs to stay away from our buddy, and for Maddie's comfort as well.

From Jack: Sorry the turkey stunk, pal. Next time, stick to noodles like me!

We love you!

Jacob, cool Spiderman costume. What are you going to be for Halloween? I am going to be a Doctor! I kind of stuck with the costume since I got to wear the mask when I get out of the Egg next week. So, I think I will grow a little hair, put on some glasses and be Dr. Louis Rapkin, my famous and cool Doctor at Scottish Rite. I am going to wear my own stephescope and scrubs! I am raiding the linen closet tonight. Nurse Sarah is going to help me score the scrubs.
I miss you and will see you after the doctors say I can run around without a mask....This dress up thing is going to get old when I don't get candy everyday.

Tiffany,

Looks like you have Spiderman living at your house. Sounds like you had a fun time at Camp Sunshine. I'm jealous that you got to meet some of our friends on the ALL list. I'd love to meet some of them one day.
Thanks for signing Lucas' guestbook with birthday wishes for Evan. Let's just say that the birthday went off without a hitch. Lots of bets were laid at the Hammond Casino. After the kids broke the bank, we had to close the gaming floor and they cashed in their chips. What a blast. It was definitely a birthday to remember for Evan. After the kids went home, Paul headed up to the hospital for his last sleepover.
Lucas has been home since Monday and is doing fabulous. Actually while he was in hospital, he was great. Once the fever decided to settle, it was just a waiting game.

Jacob, My Friend,
I am so sorry I have not written you lately, but I have been getting my second transplant the past 10 days. I am doing fine and think I will escape this place in about 20- 30 more moons! I know I will do it sooner, but my Mom's are being extra careful.

I can't wait to start school too! Dr. Ann said I can go next spring. I think I will keep my bald head because all of the chicks dig it! The nurse's keep rubbing it and say it is smooooooooth.

I miss you and know I will see you really, really soon!

Jacob, I am a new friend of your Mom's, I met her through the American Cancer Society Cattle Barons' Ball. What an awesome lady she is and what a lucky young man you are to have her on your team. What you might not know, is that you have a whole bunch of new players on your team, thanks to your Mom. All of us working on the Cattle Barons' Ball are fighting to earn lots of money to help local cancer patients and their families and we are going to raise lots of money for research and treatment developments. I am proud to be a member of your team. I am proud to have met your Mom and am in awe of all that she is doing! I hope to meet you very soon.

I already told my mom that I can't wait to go fishing!
And in the meantime, watch out for this Hurricane Ivan!
We are gonna get drenched, that's for sure!
I go to clinic next week on the 23rd at 9:30am. You know, it's just too bad that we all can't go to clinic at the same time! I know that would make Dr.B and Dr.Lew just crazy!

Jacob, its good to see you looking so well. Your dad was telling be about taking you out for a bike ride and about how he fell over 3 times when he couldn't get his feet out of the pedals fast enough when stopping. That must have been very funny to see. Your cousin Destin did the same thing earlier this week when he got the same locking pedals for his bike. It was funny watching him stop and try to pull his foot out of the pedal and then just falling over. The next time you see him give him a hard time.

Welcome Jacob and family,
I'm sure you will find this site such a release and a comfort. I know I do. Writing certainly cleans the soul of all the intense feelings that overtake you. I'm glad too, that you found the list. It is a Godsend. If ever I'm in doubt, I consult the list and then bring my questions forward to our oncologist.
Jacob looks like a darling. I hope his first day is as exciting for him as it was for our Lucas when he started last fall. His entry into school this year may be somewhat delayed as he is in the middle of DI#1 right now and school is 3 weeks away.
I'll check in on you periodically as I try to visit most of the kids from the list as much as possible.
