We’re in today to start Shuvanon’s new treatment. He’ll be receiving his Trabectedin infusion over the next 24 hours. This means he’ll be fitted with a fancy lil’ pump. Trabectedin is a vesicant which means it can cause severe burns if it comes in contact with the skin, so we’ll have to be very careful while it’s running. A home infusion nurse will come to our house tomorrow to de-access him. There’s always a ton of anxiety that accompanies starting new treatments, but I’m so hopeful that this treatment will be exactly what he needs. 

Shuvie’s bloodwork this morning showed that his hemoglobin is already recovering from the last chemo that he was on (it tanked his hemoglobin). His bilirubin was also slightly elevated so we’ll do repeat labs in a week to make sure everything is fine. Other than that, he will hopefully be starting physical therapy soon to help him get some exercise and start building muscle. 

We’re so thankful that we’re in the infusion center during nurse appreciation week so we could bring all of the nurses donuts and thank them for the difference they make in our lives every day. Please give your nurses some extra love this week and all of the weeks to come because they are the backbone of the healthcare system. We’re so grateful for them.
