Last Tuesday was Ryans last Chemo treatment for his intermittent maintenance phase 2 cancer journey. He is officially into his maintenance stage. He will now have a two or so week break to get stronger, get those darn mouth sores to completely heal and hopefully get an appetite back as he is still very minimal with his eating. With this new maintenance phase, which will go through November 2025, his treatments shouldn’t be as harsh on my little man. Early into this phase he might still make more regular trips down to Minneapolis until his blood counts get stabilized but slowly he will get to back off all those trips down there and do most of his Chemo by mouth at home. The Drs. On his team said to try and get his life back to normal as it would be, but as a mom I’m going to be, of course, over protective of what he does. Yesterday my little man did make a milestone, after missing his whole 5th grade year with his pals he felt strong enough and was excited to be able to get to the theatre, walk the stage with the help of some of his amazing teachers, and received his 5th grade diploma. Bob and I are so very proud of this strong boy and now we officially have a middle school kiddo. I so pray that this summer we can get somewhat more of a normal summer with our man and that his strength and eating gets back to where it should be.
