Leslie got through that first batch of the second round of chemo like the champ that he is! He is feeling good and not having many side effects. The rash and swelling is going away…his doctor at Texas Oncology figured out that Leslie is allergic to the antibiotic that he has been taking as a preventative to chemo lowering his resistance to infection and changed that medication to something that he is tolerating much better. We are so grateful for that! Leslie says the worst part of all the treatments is actually the Optune Treatment that he has to wear for 3-4 days and nights straight, with only 1-2 days off. But if it helps to keep the cancer cells from bonding, we will endure.
G-Pop got to meet his 5th grandchild this week! Our son Jonah and his wife had their first child, Elizabeth Jane on June 4. We got to meet her a few days later, right after Coach was inducted into the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame, a huge honor for Leslie. We got to spend a few days holding Lizzie…what a joy. She’s a beauty!
God continues to sustain us day by day. I just want to say to anyone who is struggling: your struggle is real. Not everyone may understand, not everyone may get that what you are going through is unfortunately the first thing you think about when you wake up, and the thing that robs you of sleep in the wee hours of the night. Often you must prioritize your struggle above other really big things going on…things you’d rather draw joy from and fixate on, but you can’t, and you might feel guilt about that. My friend, please do not. You are where you are for a purpose and God sees you. Don’t worry about what others think they know…no one asks for hard stuff, it just is what it is. Our God Who Sees, El Roi, is with you, loves you, and walks with you, carrying you and sustaining you. This is where we live right now, and I’m telling you, He is Real. He Sees and He cares.
