Journal entry by Heather Broadhurst —
Yesterday was the last day of radiation and chemo for Leslie! He got to ring the end of treatment bell after his last radiation! It was an exciting day for us both as we got to move from phase one of this battle into a place of rest for the next four weeks before heading into phase two at the end of May. Les gets to rest and recover from chemo and radiation and get ready for six months of chemotherapy to begin at the end of May, and the Optune treatment that he will wear on his head. He is in good spirits, and we both slept really well last night…10 hours! We haven’t slept that long since I don’t know when! This won’t be a shock to you all if you know my guy, but I just wanted to comment on how proud I am of Leslie…he has maintained the best attitude through this whole process, staying positive, being a good patient (except drinking water 😂), and trusting in our Lord and Savior. He continues to have a fight mentality, a positive outlook, and sticks to the game plan, just like the amazing Coach that he is. He never complains, never asks “Why me?” and always looks to our Yahweh Rophe, the Lord Who Heals, for strength, healing, and comfort. It’s so easy to look to things of this world for escape or comfort, but please know NOTHING will satisfy and fulfill you except our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! The Alpha and The Omega, Who bookends our lives, is the only One who can uphold us, comfort us, sustain us, and truly love us from first breath to last. If you are searching and don’t know Him, please reach out to Leslie or me…we would love to share with you of His Great Faithfulness.
Shoutout to the staff in the radiology department of Texas Oncology…you can’t convince either one of us that there are better people and more loving and definitive care! They took us under their wing since day one, and quickly became family. They are amazing, knowledgeable, always upbeat and friendly, and truly angels in disguise sent from Heaven! Praying you will never need them, but if you do, they are your guys!
We head back to MD Anderson in the next few weeks…please pray the tumor is gone or shrinking! Love to all!
