Welcome to Ken’s CaringBridge Site
Sign In to Show Your SupportIt is a big week for Ken! On Wednesday, he is moving up to The Cottages at Martin Lake in Fremont. Please pray that the move goes smoothly and that Ken will adjust well to the new environment! We also ask for prayers for Carol as she makes the long drive each day to be with him.
We are so thankful for the time that Ken had at Mary Free Bed and for all the wonderful therapists, nurses, and doctors who cared so well for him. In the last two weeks, he has continued to make progress. His legs having been getting much stronger and the movement in his hand has continued to improve.
We are hoping that Ken's progress will not be slowed after his move, since he will not be able to receive as much therapy at The Cottages as he currently gets at Mary Free Bed. We are so thankful that therapists from Mary Free Bed will be coming up each week day to do either physical or occupational therapy with Ken, as well as speech therapy once a week. We are also glad that they were able to get some equipment up at The Cottages for Ken's therapy, so that Carol can help him do therapy as well, even when the therapists are not there. Eventually, the plan is for Ken to come to Mary Free Bed 2 days a week for outpatient therapy, but we are not sure how soon that will begin. Please pray that can get arranged soon.
Ken has been struggling a lot lately with muscle spasms. They have been so bad that they are hindering his progress. He is going to be having a procedure soon where they will inject Baclofen (a medication for muscle spasms) directly into his spinal cord to help resolve this issue. First, they will do a test to determine how much of the medication he needs and then they will put in a port and a pump that will automatically pump the medicine to his spinal cord. We are hoping that this procedure can happen soon and we pray that it will be effective and will allow Ken to make even more progress!
In addition to your prayers, we have one more request: Ken's birthday is next Monday, May 20th, and we would love for him to be showered with cards on that day! Here is the address, if you would like to send him a card:
Ken Anema

Thank you all for your continued prayers in this next stage of Ken's recovery. We know that God is good and look forward to seeing how he continues to work and heal Ken's body at The Cottages.
