Chemo Day!

Another great chemo day at Frauenshuh Cancer Center! The sun is shining ☀️ The birds are building nests outside our window 🐦‍⬛🪺 Kathryn, Mom’s sister, came for a visit (see pic) and the other day she came over having made hot cross buns - Mom’s favorite - so we had one of those today. Good day!

We met with Mom’s doctor this morning. We are continuously impressed with his level of care. Today he was telling Mom how impressed he is with the way she is responding to treatment. She told him it probably has something to do with being Norwegian. So he proceeded to offend us and our heritage and told us a joke that his dad, who didn’t like Norwegians, would tell. “Why do we bury Norwegians 12ft under ground? Because deep down they are good people.” 🤣🤣 (We weren’t actually offended)

Mom’s labs came back positive. Her hemoglobin was up to 9. Last time Mom’s neutrophils were at 1.5 and she got an injection to boost the production of these white blood cells. It worked! Today they had gone up to 5. 🥳👏🏼 The only number that was lower than they would like is her magnesium. So she received an IV of magnesium alongside her first chemo drug. And she did lose a pound but no one is concerned about that - just needs to eat a bit more of chips and queso! 🥳

Mom’s last drug of the day is just finishing up then they will come in to connect the take-home pump.

We are thankful:
  • For sunshine and spring! ☀️🌷 Mom has been able to spend some time the last few days out on the front porch.
  • For our own room during chemo treatments. It’s been a gift to have that space that we don’t take it for granted as we know not everyone gets that experience.
  • For a visit from Aunt Kathy!
  • That Mom’s labs continue to come back positive showing the chemo drugs are doing their job.

Prayers:
  • For the drugs to continue to do their job and that Mom continues to be stable/improves.
  • For no/minimal side effects
  • For Mom’s appetite - that it will increase and that she can continue to eat a variety of foods. This last week she had pizza, tater tot hot dish and chow mein! She’s on a roll!
  • For continued protection over Mom’s health

Thanks for journeying with us!! 🩷🙏🏼
