John’s Story

**Please note:  The Ahern Family is so grateful for this website as it's an easy way to keep you all updated on John but it's important to note that if you make a "tribute" here on the Caring Bridge site, 100% goes to the website and none to the Aherns.  While they do not expect donations at this time, they wanted you to be fully informed before donating via a "Tribute".

Welcome and thank you for stopping by. You are reading this because you too love John.  If you don't know him well, here is a bit about him. He is a devoted husband to Jan Ahern for 33 years (The Jesus year)! He is a doting father of 8 (2 by marriage) truly fantastic kiddos ages 11-28 and a proud Papa John to 2 granddaughters and a grandson on the way. John is a dentist, who loves his job and works with the most amazing team. John was at the ER on Saturday 2/25/23 because he was having chest pain that was progressively becoming more consistent, but not worse than moderate indigestion. Tests ruled out a heart attack and more tests and a CT scan revealed a tumor in the pancreas and spots on the liver and a lymph node. Biopsies will be taken on 2/28/23 at 3pm (the hour of Mercy)! That biopsy revealed adenocarcinoma in pancreas. We assembled our army of caregivers and prayer  warriors and took up the fight of our lives. We worship a Divine Healer and a mighty God whose ways are not our ways but we trust and we hope and we pray. We know He is in our midst, surrounds us and goes before us. We are surrounded by a beautiful, loving, large family. We are surrounded by a beautiful, loving, large group of friends and we are surrounded by a beautiful, loving, large, local faith community. We are surrounded by a large, global faith community. We love each and everyone of you and we are humbled by your immense generosity of prayer and help. We feel it in the depths of our souls. May God bless us all as we journey together to a complete healing. "No more tears, warriors don't cry" is our battle cry - John's quote! "Jesus, I Trust in You" is our prayer.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Valerie Haas

To the wonderful Ahern Army,

Thank you for your constant prayers, concern and love for John, Jan and their beautiful family. I wish I had a happier update for all of you, but John is being discharged into hospice care. The doctors said that the cancer has taken over his body and any more treatment will just aggravate the cancer and cause John to become more unstable and uncomfortable. Transferring from treatment to hospice will allow for a peaceful, holy and comfortable death. John has been transferred to a room at the hospital which is used for hospice care. All of the family is there and will be staying either at the hospital or very near the hospital so they can all be together.

Knowing God is mighty, we hope for a miracle; but we also pray for God's mercy on John, and for his transition to the Kingdom to be overflowing with love, peace and beauty. We also pray that the love and peace of God be overwhelmingly present to Jan and the family.

Please feel free to continue to leave your messages of love and support here on Caring Bridge. Each one is so important and so cherished! Please refrain from sending texts and from calling...they desire to be truly present to John and to one another without the distraction of many texts and calls coming in.

"Thank you" sounds so terribly inadequate but please understand what you all mean to the Aherns...your love is a miracle that God granted from the very beginning! God bless you all!
