Journal

The good news is, it was a stable week.  She worked very hard in all her sessions, and they worked her! She had 3, 8 hour days, she was very thankful for the rest day on Tuesday.

What I'd like to challenge everyone to do is take 1 hour in the coming days.  I challenge you to only use your right arm and leg, and for fun...close your left eye.  That is a fraction of what Erin is working through.

She wants her left leg to move.  She wants her left hand to move.  She doesn't want to have to move it with her right foot or right arm.  Go for a walk with your leg dragging behind.  Tell your leg to move, you know it's there but it's not complying with what your brain wants it to do.  Stand up from the recliner with your right leg only and no pushing off with your right hand.  Riding in the car and the driver tells you to look here, only use your right eye, and miss it.  Your brain isn't getting the message to turn your head to the left to see what you're missing in your vision.

Try to text with one eye.  Try to facetime someone and not see yourself.  You see a version of yourself but it's not the same.

Everything is different.  Everything is harder.  Going from a high energy, very active to needing help with all things, that's hard.  It's very hard.

Erin is able to spend Mother's Day Weekend with the kids and minimal activities.  We enter this year with a new appreciation for the little things.  Treasuring each hour together, each activity.  It's not about the bright shiny things, it's about love.  Erin is the face of grit and continually focused on the prize.  The days are long and hard, and she keeps pushing.  Many of us look at our Mother's and think they are invincible.  This chapter in Erin's life is going to be called Watch Me.  Preston, Mallory, Campbell, and all of us in Awe of her...we are watching and cheering, especially on the hard days.
