Erin had a fantastic week and a big goal met! She was able to attend Mallory’s 8th Grade Graduation on Tuesday! Early days in Lincoln that was a goal we discussed and at the time it felt like a pipe dream but, she has focused so hard, worked and gained muscle back, she was there smiling every moment! Yesterday she was able to enjoy a field day/track meet at school, she went down and up the stairs assisted!! HUGE!!
The next three weeks are going to be filled with more medical vs rehab. She will have 3 sessions next week, then 3 weeks off. On Wednesday, May 29, she will have the heart monitor implant put in, easy procedure and able to return to therapy. Wednesday, June 5, she will be having her cranioplasty, this is when they will be re-attaching the right side of her skull to the left. Fortunately, they will not shave her head again and they’ll use stitches vs 85 staples :). They anticipate this hospital stay to only be a few days. After a few weeks of rest, she’ll return to Lincoln to finish up her outpatient rehab.
We’ve all been waiting for a date for this surgery, and now it’s close and we’re nervous. We’ve asked the team many questions in person and on my chart, their guidance is helping us understand all the elements. The craniectomy was performed on March 6, at that time we were in a moment to moment decision making. No time to sit and overthink. We didn’t know what questions to ask, what laid ahead of us at that time. We are doing our best to prepare and make sure she’s comfortable. Best part, no more helmet for her!
