Last Monday (April 29) I woke up feeling extremely weak with chills. I hadn’t felt great all weekend but this was definitely a turn for the worse. I took my temp and it was 102.9 so I called my clinic. They told me to immediately go to the ER.
Cancer + a fever gets you to the top of the list at the ER so luckily I was taken back immediately. I was able to get some meds to help bring my fever down and we hung out while they ran every test they could. Initially finding nothing, I was admitted.
The next few days I battled lots of fevers while we waited for blood work results to come back. Finally on Friday we discovered an infection and I had surgery to remove it.
Over the weekend and early this week I was on IV antibiotics to clear out the infection. I was finally discharged Tuesday afternoon.
Unfortunately this little detour in my cancer journey causes come complications. My chemo treatment for this Friday was cancelled. My oncologist is talking things over with my surgeon to determine if we just wait a few weeks and resume treatment or if they cancel the remaining cycles and I go right to my double mastectomy/hysterectomy.
If any cancer is found during the mastectomy, I could always add on chemo after surgery although for me mentally this is hard to sit with. I either want to do it now or just be done.
As I’m learning more and more, the road to recovery is not a linear path. Just hoping we get a plan in place and I start to feel better soon. For now, I just need to take things day by day ❤️.
