I am exactly two weeks post-surgery so I thought it was time for a little update. Generally I'm feeling pretty good, all things considered. While I am very sore, I can see I've made a lot of progress over the last few weeks. It's still quite hard for me to lift my arms up high, but my surgeon has recommended some physical therapy to work on this. In order for me to start radiation I need to be able to lift my arms above my head, something I'm not even close to doing right now.
The biggest struggle has honestly been not being able to lift the kids. It's definitely the hardest with Jack. We've had a lot of help these past two weeks since I basically can't be alone with the kids. I appreciate the help so so much but I'll be grateful to have more freedom in a few weeks when I'm a bit more healed.
Last week I had appointments with both my oncologist and surgeon.
My surgeon was pleased with how I'm healing and took my drains out. Huge relief! This also meant I could finally take a shower ;).
My oncologist reiterated her recommendation for me to be completely done with chemo since I had a complete response. At this point the chemo could do more long-term harm than good. I'm not going to argue too much here... chemo was terrible and I have no desire to do it ever again. I will still do infusions of a drug called Keytruda which is an immunotherapy drug. This will be every three weeks until mid-November. I've been taking this since January and it doesn't really have any side effects.
So aside from the infusions, I just have radiation, my hysterectomy and eventually reconstruction left to do! My guess is the hysterectomy will be sometime this fall and I'll wait until next year to do the reconstruction. Feels like I can actually see the finish line of treatment!!
