Journal

Greetings to all dear family and friends who are following and supporting and caring for us! Everything is going wonderfully, under the circumstances, Sarah and I have just been a little overwhelmed with keeping all the balls in the air and we're not yet in the habit of anticipating needs far enough ahead to ask for a little help, lol! Sorry to have such a gap in the journal updates.

Sharon has been recovering wonderfully in rehab and totally kicking ass on her physical and occupational therapy and gets to come home this Monday!!!!! She has progressed to even doing some squats and lunges in her PT over the last few days! Mary has gotten to spend a fair bit of time in the hospital with her, observing PT and OT, getting trained for helping out with bathing etc. at home, and so on. (We will also be hiring some regular help, don't worry!) It’s been nice to be able to just be there for her, and to be able to see her incredible progress. She has graduated to be allowed to move independently in her room, no bed alarms! (Mary has figured out how to turn off all the stinkin’ alarms anyway. 🤣) Sharon got to go outside and walk around the coffee shop at the hospital on Friday morning – always AMAZING to finally get outside when you’ve been trapped in the hospital prison for a while. She still needs to use the wheelchair quite a bit of the time, but is getting stronger every day. We’ve also been bringing her food from home (that others have made!), keeping her flowers fresh and bright, and bringing a stack of get well cards every day. It’s so lovely to see all the well wishes – including “may you never have frogs fall out of your underpants.” 🤣

Terry is also doing wonderfully – he is in a good mood and generally relaxed these days. For the last four days in a row, he has gone on progressively longer walks around the neighborhood, of his own accord, even with the morning chill we’ve been having. He is back to his normal daily patterns, for the most part, other than not being able to go out on little jaunts to the bookstore or library yet. Family friend and mechanic has threatened to take him to the World of Powersports over in Decatur to look at off-road vehicles and other such toys. 🤣 Sarah has got us binge watching Ted Lasso and keeping Dad up till 10 o’clock at night!!! He is loving it.

Sarah’s work has been insane, and in spite of that she is totally kicking ass on all the insurance (medical and auto) paperwork and phone calls, as well as countless other details (driver’s license renewals, vehicle tab renewals, various bills, etc. etc. etc.) She’s also bringing us into the modern world, learning to take advantage of things like Uber and Instacart. 🤣

In spite of the unfortunate circumstances, it has truly been a gift to have the four of us together, taking care of each other and appreciating each other and laughing so much together, AND be so surrounded and supported by this network of Sharon and Terry’s friends that Sarah and I are finally getting to know better. We are so heart-grateful and appreciative for our extended families AND for all of Sharon and Terry’s friends near and far. ❤️❤️❤️
