Journal entry by Karli Greenwold —
No major updates today. We met the nephrologist that will handle trentons outpatient dialysis and discussed options going forward and his current labs.
His hemoglobin, hematocrit and red blood cells remain low. We are avoiding a transfusion unless it is our only option. Transfusions add antibodies and that can, in turn, cause extra sensitivity to a transplant. They are currently giving him IV iron weekly and hoping that with dialysis relieving stress from his kidneys that his body will start to produce more red blood cells and his numbers will continue to rise.
As far as the transplant, we are still waiting for insurance to do the prior authorization to start the evaluation process. Until they have that we can't get it scheduled. Hopefully that will come through soon. We have 2.5 months to get through the process and get him accepted on the recipient list before he turns 18. Getting him listed as a minor is a key part to make this process as quick as possible for him
To everyone who has donated to the GoFundMe for Trenton, THANK YOU! The generosity of our friends, family, community and complete strangers has humbled me for a second time in the last 5 years. It is a relief to know that future weeks of missed work, unpaid, I will still be able to pay the mortgage and support my kiddos. I appreciate every single one of you.
