Journal entry by Lynn Pahl —
Coherent speaking is the most consistent area of improvement. Tom is working hard on shorter term memory (e.g. who did the Lions play today), reading and comprehension. Tom is reading at an elementary school level. I’m waiting for my voracious reader to return and haven’t touched the 15 books queued on his nightstand. Shout out to Doug, his long time trainer and friend who visits us regularly for personal PT sessions. Tom also has a new caregiver who comes to our house for a few full days of comprehensive therapy and daily activities, allowing me to get back to my office.
Tom is playing pickleball at least once a week and keeps busy with therapy activities, helping around the house (still an excellent sous chef) and many friends who stop by and take him out to hit golf balls, bowl, go to high school basketball games, dinner, etc. We are grateful for all of you!
A few odd and ends:
- Tom does not have a phone or computer. He’s not ready to manage either, and we have not been able to unlock his phone since Nov 11
- Tom is not driving.
- Tom is fully capable of moving around and self care.
- Tom is not drinking any alcohol for ~12 months per doctor orders. NA beer is a good thing!
- Anyone want to claim this crock pot and serving dish? I think Tom borrowed it for a chili contest.
p.s. Huge continued thanks to our friends and my Life Time community. You keep me well.
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Tom's for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
