We’re back at MDA for Tom’s regularly scheduled monthly appointment with his Neuro-oncologist. Thus far, May has been a difficult month.
Tom took a sharp downturn about May 2nd/3rd. His gait was unsteady, he had a blank expression, he was disoriented and non-communicative - just not himself!
After consulting with a couple of our children, the consensus was to get him to the MDA ER. We got here Saturday, May 4th, about 6:30.
They got him in immediately & started with all the routine tests, as well as a CT & MRIs of his brain. He had cerebral edema around his tumor bed and was admitted. His steroid dose was quadrupled & we were able to come home Wednesday. It was a rough time for sweet Tom - everything was confusing.
So.. we had a short week at home, and felt drained during those days.
The good news is that his thinking cleared up amazingly well! And he didn’t lose any long-term memory or his sense of humor!
The unfortunate news is that he’ll start Round #3 of the dreaded mega-dose chemo Wednesday - Sunday. Grateful for something that kills GBM cells, but .. it’s so hard on his system. Wish there were a “kinder, gentler” chemo!! Ha!
On the home front, it was a lovely Mother’s Day before we drove to Houston in a torrential downpour!! Our hydrangeas, gardenias, & roses have burst into gorgeous blooms, so I’ll get to continue cutting & sharing flowers with family & friends!
We thank God for His goodness in protecting and guiding and loving us in all the up’s & down’s of the past weeks! And we continue to be so grateful to you all for your kindness & prayers! More later..
