Journal entry by Sylvia Middlebrook —
Happy May Day! Month #6 living with GBM.
We got good news at Tom’s last MRI! The residual tumor hadn’t grown & there was less indication of enhancement (or vascular activity & inflammation) around the tumor bed. So things were stable - which was a huge relief!
We’re deeply grateful to God for His loving protection & to each of you for your sincere prayers!!
So, days move on & we’re now in the 5 days on/23 days off chemo routine which will last for six months total - so through August. It’s a much higher dosage than what Tom took for six weeks, & it’s taken its toll on him - primarily severe fatigue, loss of appetite, short term memory loss, difficulty initiating & finishing things, sleep disturbance, & other unwanted side effects. But these symptoms decreased the further he got away from the five days of bucket-load chemo last month, so we’re hopeful they’re only temporary. We have four more rounds of this brutal routine, and then hopefully, Optune only!
We celebrated some family birthdays in April. We also took a trip to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Caddo Conf. which Tom’s attended each year since 1982, and we made it out to see Crystal Bridges Museum. We have some up-coming trips which gives us something to look forward to!
Life is uncertain (but isn’t it for all of us?!), so we’re making plans as if things were “normal”..
Truth is, we long for the normality of life B.C. (Before cancer), but are facing the future with optimism and with the reassurance that knowing Christ gives us.
More soon…
