Tina’s Story

Site created on December 13, 2023

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Dear family and friends,
Most of you already know this, but I'm creating this site to share updates on my journey. I'm currently hospitalized at Strong Memorial Hospital in the Advanced Heart Failure & Pre/Post Heart Transplant Unit. For the last 8 months or so my heart has been on a steady decline. I'm 31yrs plus since my original heart transplant, well past the "expected" time. Because of the increased heart arrhythmias and heart failure, it's time for a new heart. I'm currently on the transplant waiting list and hospitalized here until a heart becomes available. This website is where I (or Marty) will post updates. I will not be sharing anything on Facebook.

Journal entry by Martin Medina

Hello Family and Friends, Tina is doing as well as she has been and her health is still just as stable. However, there is a big change, no, it's not a heart yet.

Two days ago we learned from the doctors that the two transplant surgeons at Strong are leaving. Then we heard the inside scoop. Without sharing non-first-hand-information, I'll just say that the nurses and the doctors that monitor Tina's care were all 110% on board with her wanting to transfer to Boston.

In less than 24 hours, Tina (her superpower is self-advocacy) managed to make the right calls to doctors she had in Boston and secure herself a bed at Massachusetts General Hospital where she will be waiting for her transplant.

I'm keeping this brief because I'm hitting the road to meet her there. I need to drive, but here's a pic of her mode of transportation.

Thank you all for your continued support!
