Good Morning 🌲❤️TEAMNICK❤️🌲
I hope you all had a nice weekend.
I know it was Father's Day and so I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the sweet Steve Gissin for the amazing way that he has always shown up for our family. He comes from such a truly wonderful family and so I guess it is no surprise that his presence in our lives has been such a huge gift. Not only is he a great role model, but he is a wonderful mentor and friend to all those lucky enough to know him.
I wish there was a day to just celebrate being an inspiring, good human being, regardless of motherhood/fatherhood because in so many ways we are inspiring, nurturing & celebrating each other- and that consistent love & care is to me the essence of "parenting".
That being said, I celebrate all of 🌲❤️TEAMNICK❤️🌲 because your relentless love & care for Nick is nurturing him and our family in a powerful way. ❤️❤️❤️
Speaking of Nick, our dear guy is doing well.
We understand that a surgery is in his future, and thankfully there is not a rush or urgency right now around setting the date for that.
We are slowly trying to wake up his gut so that if/when surgery happens we are already in a place of being able to feed his gut. Not only will feeding his gut make him stronger & more nutritionally optimized going into the surgery, but it will also make him heal & recover more quickly after the surgery.
Currently we have 2 successful days behind us of refeeding him his biliary fluid. He is setting that schedule & so far we have done two sessions of 2.5 hours on Sat & three sessions of 2.5 hours on Sunday. I think today he wants to repeat the three but slightly increase the rate. His gut has tolerated this well so far. The rate has been extremely slow and we are feeling good about how well he has done with it so far. Yesterday he went for a walk, played games, visited with family members and even teased me a bit - which is very heart warming to me ❤️
The team hasn't rounded yet this morning, but I don't think there will be much to discuss other than the refeeding plan for today.
Oh and, Nick's cellulitis came back - so he is back on antibiotics for that and we will have a look at it to make sure it looks like it is clearing again and discuss how long the course of antibiotics should be to try to be sure it is totally cleared before stopping this time.
Other than that, today should be uneventful - though we never like to say that out loud.
Thank you to those of you who have contributed candy to our candy bar. The new additions were noticed by staff with excitement and that continues to be a bright spot all day long over here in room 6-21.
Sending appreciation & love to all!
