*TRIBUTE DONATIONS DO NOT GO TOWARD Nick's fundraiser - They go to CaringBridge -Nick’s fundraiser can be found under “Ways To Help” above. Thank you! LOVE TO ALL! ❤️🌲🦊

Dear friends and family,

Our beloved Nick has been diagnosed with NK/T-cell Lymphoma. In November 2023, he began receiving treatment at James P. Wilmot Cancer Center in Rochester, NY. On November 30th, he traveled via Mercy Flight to the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland where he is preparing for a critical bone marrow transplant. Our family has relocated to be with Nick as he receives the life-giving care he needs and we will remain in Bethesda with him until he can return to Rochester in Spring of 2024.

Many of you have asked how you can help. Click on "Ways to Help" above, where you will find:

 - Our GoFundMe campaign.  This fundraiser can be found under "Ways To Help". Although we have met our current goal we will leave the fundraiser open in the event that anything unanticipated changes the currently planned course of treatment/costs. The expenses associated with this journey are adding up quickly, so from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for any financial support you offer.  Please be aware that donations made under the TRIBUTE tab, do not go to Nick, they go to fund Caring Bridge. We are sorry for any confusion around that. It is a feature of Caring Bridge and we certainly appreciate their forum.

- Currently Halted- Our MealTrain, where meal support has been organized previously. Thanks to all who brought food to the hospital in Rochester, NY. You nourished us in all the ways that mattered.

Journal entry by Julie (Dugan) Gissin

Good afternoon  🌲❤️TEAMNICK❤️🌲
As you all know, our dear Nick's biliary drain was very painful and the pain was not letting up.

The docs here were planning to change it in a few weeks but Nick's pain, and the fact that a ct scan  showed some likely internal leaking, changed that plan.

This morning he went down to IR for this drain to be addressed.

Nick is now out & back up in his room on WCC6.

The procedure was deemed successful. The old drain into his gall bladder was removed & a new drain was placed that is internal & external. This drain goes from his liver into his small bowel - yet also has a drain that comes out of his body as the previous one did. At a future date the external portion can be capped and if all goes well his biliary fluid will then go from liver to bowel without exiting his body.

We were told the procedure was incredibly painful for Nick and we are imagining the next few days will be quite uncomfortable.

The doctor said she "flew right through the ampulla" with no problem.

I was worried about the ampulla because neither the gi or ir doc had been able to "visualize it" when they were in there down at NIH.

Phew. Glad it was not a problem area! I believe being able to access the ampulla may also speak to potential paths to getting him nutrition in his gut as opposed to the central line tpn nutrition he is getting now. Stay tuned on that. One thing at a time. ❤️🙏🏻

Will let you know how the healing/recovery goes and when he may be able to go back home. ❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻

Love to all!
