After a wonderful weekend celebrating my birthday in Palm Springs on the 19th, we stopped at City of Hope on the drive back for more appointments, and then enjoyed a nice, normal week at home. I followed doctor’s orders and soaked up as much goodness as I could before leaving this morning to come back to my home away from home for the next couple months. My mom and I had a smooth drive, got my first two appointments done, and then checked into our hotel room early. I unpacked and settled in, enjoyed a nice “mom-made” blt sandwich for lunch and then we went back for another radiation treatment planning appointment.
Overall, everything has gone very well today, aside from some challenges getting my new picc line placed. There was some “resistance” (probably due to scar tissue where my port used to be) but God bulldozed the way through and we gave Him the glory 🙏 When I told my nurses that I couldn’t make my veins behave well, but I would ask God to, they actually ended up sharing a new hymn with me and we shared favorite Bible verses with one another. It was a beautiful moment, but admittedly, my arm is rather sore tonight.
Aside from that, however, it really was a good day and a good start to this next chapter of our journey. The pictures I included tonight are from my birthday dinner in Palm Desert, the beautiful Japanese garden we found here today, and mom and me enjoying our hotel room. Mom and I will be here all week and look forward to finding more ways to enjoy our days, but I will also have three days of chemo starting tomorrow, followed by three days of radiation and then I’ll check in to the hospital next Friday.
As always, I will continue sharing updates and we covet your prayers 🙏 We know we are in good hands here, but we know even more that we are in God’s hands as we take this one day at a time… May we all continue to draw closer to the One who holds us all in the palms of His hands.
