Journal

It's been a little over a month since our last post and most of the news has been positive.  Up until about 2 weeks ago Mom was doing well.  She came to dinner for Vinnie's 7th Birthday Party (See Pic) and was getting her treatments as normal.  On a positive note, her tumor marker numbers had dropped 30+ points on the new chemo regiment!!

Then as fate would have it about 2 weeks ago Mom was getting more tired than normal and felt "off".  We chalked it up as par for the course at first, but as the week went on it got progressively worse to the point where she would walk across the room and have to sit down because she was exhausted and short of breathe.  We called the Dr.'s on Friday (5/10) and they recommended taking her to the ER.  Mom, being thick headed, didn't want to do that so instead she decided to go to hydration.  Suzi Rummel was at her house giving her a haircut and graciously offered to take her to hydration.  Little did Suzi know that Mom likes to pass out when people other than me take her to hydration.  True to form, Mom passed out at hydration and they had her transported to the ER (probably should have listened when they originally told her to go.)

While at the ER they ran multiple scans and found absolutely nothing wrong.  CT Scans showed no blood clots, internal bleeding, pneumonia, or any other major issue.  All of her blood work also came back normal as well.  They let us go without any clue of what was going on.

Mother's Day Sunday Mom again wasn't feeling great but we were going to brunch with both Jen and our Family.  Following lunch Mom rode home with Jen.  Now, I've been in a car with Jen and I understand it is an experience.  But this particular ride must have been really crazy cause Mom broke out into cold sweats and again passed out. For those keeping score at home, we are 2/2 passing out on Mother's Day the last 2 years.  Mom said that when Dad was around, Easter was the Holiday he used to always get sick so she decided she would take Mother's Day.

After both of these episodes we obviously saw both her Oncologist and her General Practitioner.  Following a myriad of tests which all came back as "normal".  One red flag was identified by the GP.  Mom started taking a medication for her blood sugar about a month ago and shortly thereafter her BP numbers dropped and Heartbeat numbers increased.  Low BP would definitely explain lethargy and shortness of breathe.  The plan at the moment is to stop that new medication and see how she responds over the next several days.  We have follow up appointments with both Dr.'s next week and are hoping this is the fix!!

We will update you more next week when we know more.  In the mean time, please lift Mom up in prayer for strength and toughness to continue fighting as well as wisdom to the Dr.'s to identify the root cause and get Mom back into fighting shape.
