Russ’s Story

Site created on March 11, 2021

On Wednesday, March 10th, Russ received the official prognosis from the pathology report: Stage 4 neuroendocrine pancreatic carcinoma.  It is also in his liver and lymph system.  It is a fast-growing cancer, so things are moving at a rapid pace.   His port is going in Monday, March 15th, baseline PET scan Tuesday and he will start chemo Wed 3/17, Thur 3/18 and Fri 3/19.  There will be three rounds of 21-days ... chemo for three consecutive days, then 18 days to recover.  That will occur three times (63 days total), then another PET scan to see if the cancer has shrunk &/or stopped spreading.   Russ has survived rectal cancer (1998), bladder cancer (2012), and a massive "widow-maker" heart attack (2015). He is a fighter who trusts Jesus completely!!  Just because the doctor says 6-12 months doesn't mean God cannot work a healing miracle. HE CAN!  Russ and Stacey are grateful for each and every prayer... whether its five seconds or five minutes; specific or vague; whether you know them or not.   Thank you for supporting them in this journey!  Your love, encouragement and PRAYERS for healing are their greatest gift!

Journal entry by Stacey Schultz

When we left Houston June 25th, I never ever ever thought I’d be saying my final “I love yous” to Russ three VERY short weeks later. I've asked myself so many times the past two weeks "How did I get to this place?" But, here I am. What's most important is that I continue holding tightly to all God's promises to me.

"You have kept record of my days of wandering. You have stored my tears in your bottle and counted each of them." -Psalm 56:8 (CEV Translation)

I am asking each of you to be in prayer for tomorrow's service. I want you to specifically pray for "good."

"We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan" - Romans 8:28 (The Voice)

Based on my reaction today walking into my church seeing the beautiful decorations my sweet friend, Bethie Bolhmann, coordinated, I know tomorrow will be a mixed bag of emotions. Your presence tomorrow, whether in person or virtual, will be meaningful to me. Thank each of you for all the ways you have shown The Schultzes love--the most important being the hours, and hours and hours of your collective prayers.

There are two ways to participate in the service if you aren't able to attend - YouTube and Facebook

YouTube (Search Stacey Schultz or click on the link below) - If you are on the site prior to 1p, you'll likely need to refresh for the video of the service to show up. The goal is for it to appear at approximately 12:50p-ish.
