The Memorial Meeting for Worship for Stephen Matchett will begin at 2pm Pacific Daylight Time on Saturday, July 18, 2020.  The Zoom lobby will open at 1:30pm and you are invited and encouraged to come early to settle in.

Ann Marie Snell, Assistant Clerk of San Francisco Meeting, will clerk the Memorial Meeting for Worship.  Everyone will be muted at the beginning of the meeting. Because there will be many people attending, please raise your hand to speak using the raise hand function (on the Zoom Platform, click on the “Reactions” button) or press *9 (star-9) on your phone and the Clerk will notify you when she will unmute you for your message. The meeting typically lasts one to 1-1/2 hours.  Ann Marie will announce the end of the meeting (the rise of the meeting).

Quaker meeting for worship is based on silence and no predetermined theme. In this memorial service, we are focusing on Stephen and his life. At an appropriate point, a Friend will read the memorial statement written by the meeting, followed by a few other invited statements. After that the meeting will return to silence and individuals can raise their hands to speak (see above).

You may feel words arising within yourself, and you are welcome to speak – or sing – if you are moved to do so. The words spoken during worship may include memories of Stephen’s life and reflections on its meaning, or a spiritual message. When another speaks, listen for the truth behind the words, and please wait until people have had time to absorb the preceding ministry before you ask to speak.

After the rise of meeting you are welcome to stay and talk with others. Amusing stories are more appropriate here than during the meeting for worship. There will also be a Support Room opened after the meeting for worship if you are feeling acutely distressed and in need of speaking one to one.

We are very grateful to those who worked on organizing this Memorial Meeting for Worship and to those who will care for it on the 18th.  Andrea Harman from Redwood Forest Meeting has kindly offered to be the Zoom Coordinator and she will have the support of Chad Stephenson and Micah Melton. If you have questions, you can reach out to Carol Cruickshank, co-clerk of Ministry and Oversight Committee, 415-846-4083.

We hope you will be able to join us.
