Shawn’s Story

Site created on June 27, 2018

On Friday June 22nd Shawn woke up with horrible pains on his right side by his rib cage.  He went into the ER in Appleton MN.  They ran some tests and found out his liver was inflamed, and sent him to Fargo.  When he arrived in Fargo they did an MRI and found lesions covering his liver.

On Saturday, they did a full contrast CAT Scan of his chest, abdomen, and groin.  The C AT scan revealed a mass with partial blockage in his colon, as well as approximately 80% of his liver.

He was diagnosed on June 27th with invasive adenocarcinoma. (Stage IV metastasized colon cancer that has spread to his liver.)

Shawn’s oncologist wanted to start chemo right away. At this time surgery, and radiation are no longer options. However, we hope and pray they will become options in the future.   He began his chemo treatment June 27. 2018.

Shawn’s family and I would like everyone to keep him in your thoughts, and prayers.

I will try and update everyone as soon as I know more.

Love,

Melissa

Newest Update

Journal entry by Melissa Kamstra

It’s hard to find the words to write in this update.
After a short but strong fight, Shawn’s battle with cancer came to an end today.

We already miss him so much, but are finding comfort knowing he is no longer in pain.

This last week we witnessed so many of the lives Shawn has touched in his 35 years. One person, after another, coming to thank him for giving them a chance, turning their life around, or always being there to help. Shawn was one of the most genuine, loyal, and giving people I have ever met. He loved his family, his friends, and his coworkers. Shawn always believed people deserved a second chance, and would go out of his way to make it happen.

Shawn my love, you will be missed more than you will ever know.

Love,
Melissa
