Savannah’s Story

Site created on January 7, 2024

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

It was not the end to 2023 nor the beginning of 2024 that we had anticipated. But on New Year’s Eve as the kids embarked on one last ski run before lunch, my oldest child Savannah Sander had a major ski accident that landed her in the ICU at the hospital in Wausau. She fractured her pelvis and will have multiple surgeries to repair it.

I’m asking all prayer warriors to storm heaven today at 12 noon when she will go in for the first surgery. Pray for skilled surgeons and their team to repair my baby’s body.

Pray for my other two babies who witnessed the accident and are shook up.

While we are hopeful and have faith, we are also scared.

Hold us close today. Thank you for your prayers 🙏

Journal entry by Sala Sander

April brought showers of blessings to Savannah. First, shortly after the doctor gave her the green light to begin putting weight on her right leg, she quickly went from walking with the aid of the walker to crutches. There was no stopping her as she quickly progressed from the living room to an upstairs bedroom. Then last two Sundays, she was able to drive to and from church. It was only a half mile drive but it was tremendous progress.
Then on April 13th our wonderful neighbors Tracy Brunette and Susan Boland hosted a bridal shower for Savannah. What a wonderful day it was seeing her enjoy the moment. My mama heart is so grateful to those who have loved on Savannah with their time and treasures.
Then our friends from Naperville, Olga and Marlena, who came up to attend the shower brought their husbands along who helped Kevin remove the ramp from our back patio. Kevin was so grateful as it was quite a big job taking it apart and loading the van with the wood.

And yesterday as my neighbor was clearing out his garage, he invited me to come and see if I find something useful, and I did - I found a cane for Savannah, brought it home for her and she quickly discarded the crutches for the cane.

We have been taking Savannah on walks and every day she is able to go further. This morning I saw her and Adam doing a couple’s dance in the kitchen, and she did not need her cane for that.
We have been so blessed by the generosity of our community and loved ones. I have no doubt that your prayers and sharing of your time and treasures have brought the tremendous healing to our Savannah.

May God bless you all so richly as each of you have blessed us.
