Sam’s Story

Site created on June 26, 2018

As some of you already know, on Sunday, June 24, Sam showed sudden onset of some abnormal behaviors that were very worrisome for a central nervous system problem. He was seen in the ER of Piedmont Hospital Sunday afternoon, and was admitted to one of the hospital’s Intensive Care units. He has had many scans, tests, exams. These disclosed a mass in the right side of side of his brain, suspicious for a primary brain tumor.

He was taken to surgery for excision of the mass on Tuesday afternoon. The preliminary diagnosis of the tumor confirmed a primary brain malignancy. The tumor cells will be further examined in a series of tests including genetic analysis to get the most precise diagnosis possible. Establishing the exact tumor type will help in planning the therapy that will be most effective for treating his particular tumor; radiation therapy, chemotherapy, a combination of the two, or no additional treatment beyond the excision.

We are blessed to have so many friends and family members.  Sam and I have received calls of concern, love, and support. It’s difficult to remember who has been told what. To answer as many questions to the extent we are able, have created this account where we will share new information by posting as soon as we get it.

This is a website not only to share information as it emerges but also to leave messages, ask questions that we will answer as best as we can.

Journal entry by Sally Razook

Please note that I sent yesterday's post without all the needed information. Below is the last paragraph (corrected) from the previous letter. It contains additional information about activities of December 6th and 7th; specifically note that functions will begin in the church itself, this will be immediately followed by retreat to the adjacent church hall for a Memorial that will include a blessing, celebration of Sam's life, and a mercy meal.

Sorry for my confusion. With love, Sally
