Newest Update

Journal entry by Ruth Gaylord

Greetings friends, wonderful to have you here. You’re here visiting this site because Ruth Gaylord has played a special role in your life, and we’d like to share some recent updates regarding her health.

Update:
After mom’s primary chemo treatment of 24 years finally stopped being effective in January of this year, we were hopeful as we began a brand new, FDA approved drug for Ovarian Cancer. After multiple rounds of this treatment, however, it has been determined that the new drug is not working, and growth has continued at a substantial rate. The cancer has spread from her abdomen to her liver and is now also on her lungs. Mom has made the decision at this point to forgo additional, ineffective treatments which would simply cause more discomfort and has begun in-home hospice care as of yesterday.

How she’s doing:
Some days she’s quite tired, and has pain- either in her abdomen or as she tries to get a deep breath. However, make no mistake, she still has her unmistakable Ruth Gaylord spirit, smile, laugh, sense of humor, and care for those around her. She’s finding she's quite comfortable in her chair resting or casually chatting when she’s up for it. Mom’s hearing has had some decline, but if you speak clearly - she’s usually on top of it.

Connecting with her:
Mom is seeing friends and would love to know you’re thinking of her! Texting, calling, or even stopping by for a visit are all possible. Mom's email is: ruthgaylord@gmail.com and her direct line is 612-310-7336. Note: She is usually in bed around 7 pm, so kindly don't call after that. If you’re interested in stopping by to see her, please reach out to me, Annie, and I can help try to find a time that works well. Email me at anaughtin2015@gmail.com My cell is 651-263-9348. We’ll continue providing updates and insights via this site.

Prayers are also appreciated and very welcome as mom is gracefully entering this new phase of her life.

With much gratitude,

The 5 kids: Christian, Simon, Angela, Andrew and Anne
