Ronald’s Story

Site created on May 16, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Ron was diagnosed with Large B cell Non Hodgkin Lymphoma in January 2022.  He had knee replacement surgery in September 2021 and he struggled to recover. He just couldn’t get any stamina back. After noticing swollen glands in January he went to his internist.  There began his medical  journey into the world of cancer.
At this point Ron is scheduled to see his oncologist tomorrow, May 17th for what was supposed to be his 6th and final treatment of R CHOP.
However he just got out of the hospital after two weeks being treated for sepsis, neutropenia and a pleural effusion.  His cough has worsened and he is anxious as to what the plan will be.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Ann Peterson

Hard to believe it has been over six months since we last did an update. Time flys. Today we had a visit with Rons oncologist. The news is all good!  Rons blood markers for his cancer look good and no areas of new trouble are appearing. He doesn’t need to return to Fred Hutch to see his oncologist for SIX months! This will probably be the last post I do on this page.

Since we last updated here Ron had a cardiac procedure done that required an overnight at UW hospital. He has recovered well from that and because of that he will be going off blood thinners (which he has been on for years). More good news!
There are a few things that will be forever changed because of his treatments.  He has neuropathy on the bottom of his feet. The doc said today it is probably permanent at this point. His blood counts are still low is some critical areas. You will still see him out and about with a mask on his face. 😷 Crowded indoor events still make him nervous. Neurological problems have mostly disappeared but there are a few lingering issues  Ron continues to receive therapies for these things.

We are very grateful for every bit of good news.  Today really felt like a victory. However we carry with us friends and loved ones who are battling the variety of illness that fall under this umbrella of “cancer”. We love friends who are currently caring for loved ones in treatment. We lift up those that have lost this battle.

We have much for which we are grateful.  We are headed to Montana for the winter!❄️❄️❄️
