Dr. Ronald Lewis McGinnis, age 82, of Lakeville, MN, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at NC Little Hospice in Edina, MN.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, 12:30 PM with visitation starting at 11:30 AM all at Lakewood Cemetery Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN. Casketbearers will be: Caelen Cusick, Jason Cusick, Nathan McGinnis, Robert McGinnis, Ronald McGinnis, Andre Morant. The burial will follow at Lakewood Cemetery and also a reception at Lakewood Garden Mausoleum.
Dr. McGinnis was born November 17, 1936 in Pensacola, FL. He completed his undergraduate education at Florida A & M University and then moved to Minnesota in 1959. He completed his Masters and PhD in Education at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He was a teacher, a professor and a band director before moving into education administration within the St. Paul Public Schools. He was a federal grants writer who had a profound impact on the quality of education for all students, helping to desegregate the city’s public school system. He was forever a champion of social justice. Dr. McGinnis then attended law school and graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in 1991. He operated his private Law Office for 25 years. He loved golfing, fishing, music and especially spending time with his 3 children and 8 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son and his mother, Malvenia.
Survivors include his children, Robert (Jenny Latwesen) McGinnis of Northbrook, IL, Ronald (Jessica) McGinnis of Blaine, Richelle (Jason) Cusick of Chanhassen; grandchildren, Rashauna McGinnis, Caelen Cusick, Lauren McGinnis, Maia McGinnis, Nathan McGinnis, Connelly Cusick, Mathias McGinnis and Caplyn Cusick; many cousins, other relatives and friends.
