It all started with a kayak - September 9, 2017 - my second time out with my new inflatable kayak.  I went to Summit Lake in Lassen. I hurt my rib reaching to pull something out of the hull.  Two days later, I decided even though they could not do anything for a broken rib, I needed an X-ray in case.  The X-ray did not show a fractured rib, however, the X-ray revealed a spot on my upper left lobe of my lung.  I then had a CT Scan which revealed that I had a spiculated pulmonary nodule. The word spiculated catapulted it into the "highly suspicious" category.

I had a lung biopsy on Wednesday, October 11th.  On Friday the 13th, Dr. Miles called and said those words I never wanted to hear. "Renae, you have lung cancer." If the name Dr. Miles rings a bell with you, it is because he was the amazing doctor who saved Herb's life many times the last few years  he was alive. I feel comfortable and confident in his care, even though he will only be instrumental in the referrals and reading my reports and basically taking over as my Primary Care Doctor.  He knows me well, and what a miraculous blessing it is to know he's going to walk through this with me.  God has provided me with the most incredible care I could ever ask for or imagine.

Hold on tight with me as we are about to go on one of the craziest rides of my life.  Prayers will be essential throughout. Anxiety will be high through the waiting times, and between tests and appointments. But I believe God's hand has been in every tiny detail already and I cannot wait to see the way He is going to finish this story!

Memorial Service

Hello friends, thank you for all of your kind messages in reply to my last post.

I wanted to let you know about the memorial service we will have on Saturday, the 6th at 11am. 

Redding First Church of the Nazarene
2225 Bechelli Ln
Redding, CA 96002

We will have a potluck reception, so please bring a favorite dish and deliver to the Family Center before the service. 

Please join us and please spread the word! I realize many of you live outside the area and it's just not possible- we totally understand! 

We will try to live stream it from mom's Facebook account but that is hoping that technology will be on our side!
