Journal

It's hard to believe nearly a month has gone by since my last update. My apologies to our followers who are still on this journey with us. I'm not sure where the time went. Bek has been doing well and her graft-vs-host disease seems to be calming down. She is currently not needing the IV infusions and they have been able to taper her steroids.

The plan is to try to have her off steroids within the next 4-6 weeks and hopefully they will then be able to start weaning her off of some of her other medications. The list remains long but will hopefully get shorter soon; I am confident that we are starting to turn the corner. I can hardly grasp that she is 268 days post-transplant today.

While we have a ways to go, we are so blessed to be where we are on this journey. Last week, we received results of a repeat Who's Who test, which tells us what percentage of her cells are now donor/Josh's cells versus any stubborn/Rebekah cells that may have returned. Recall from my March 13th post that she had finally reached 100% donor. We are happy to say that she remains 100% donor which is a good sign.

Her blood counts are stabilizing and while her bilirubin remains elevated, it has improved and has not been worsening as they slowly wean the steroids. For now, we are back down to one trip per week to Indianapolis.

As I reflect back on where we started and where we are now there are certainly moments that stand out but it's mostly all a blur to me and I'm sure it is the same for Rebekah. There were certainly many moments of fear, despair, and lots of questions; two things that stand above it all are the amazing support we have received from so many people and how God and his helping hands have literally carried us.

So appreciate all of the amazing people that God has put into our lives and thankful for all the kindness that people have shown and continue to show us.

We continue to pray for the sick and suffering. Prayers of thanksgiving for all the blessings we have and for all great works that have come to pass.

With gratitude,

-Erik-
