Did treatment today and met with the oncologist:
Since there was additional cancer found in the tissue surrounding my lymph node at the time of surgery, there's always the chance of "microscopic cancer" still being left in my system, so we are changing up the plan a bit:
I won't be taking the Herceptin/Perjeta combo any longer. I am now starting on a new drug, Kadcyla, that will be given through my port every 3 weeks for 14 rounds (so hopefully done in February 2025 if there's no delays/issues). This new med is both chemotherapy and immunotherapy; it works similarly to the Herceptin medication, in the sense that it still seeks out the HER2 cells, but this will also deliver a chemo medication directly.
I will be able to still get this new treatment during radiation therapy, and once radiation is over, then I'll begin anti-estrogen treatment via ovarian supression (monthly injections) and an AI (aromatase inhibitor) pill for about 5 years. We'll also begin adding an anti-HER2 pill once the Kadcyla is done that I'll be taking for 1 year.
It's a lot, I know. And if something changes in diagnosis, then we'll be looking at a different plan. Yay.🙃 Thanks for trying to keep up with me!
