Rachel’s Story

Site created on March 7, 2018

Hey everyone! So this all started at the beginning of February when we found a lump on my breast. I was a little nervous, but I’m not going to lie, I just assumed I was gonna get checked out and everything was going to be normal. RIGHT...obviously not the case. So here I am, 2 biopsies, 4 ultrasounds, 2 MRIs and 3 mammograms later. I have breast cancer. I super don’t like saying that. I don’t claim it. It’s more like, the cancer decided to take up residence in my boob.

Anyway, here I am, about to have surgery tomorrow to get this nastiness out of me. I’ll be having a bilateral partial mastectomy (lumpectomy). It’s only in my right breast and appears to not have made it to my lymph nodes yet. Tomorrow there will be another test to check during the surgery. It will officially be decided after the pathology is complete, but I will likely go through chemo and then definitely radiation. The most important thing to me is that my doctor said this is fixable. It is fixable.

I have an amazing team of doctors at Virginia Mason in Seattle. In addition, I have an amazing support team here in Yakima with all of my coworkers and friends. The kids and Patrick (my rock) are doing well. Patrick has been by my side, holding my hand, through every step of this. My parents have even flown out to help as well. They’re the BEST!

I’ll keep you updated as I go of course but I just wanted to let all of my friends and family know what’s going on. I love you all! ❤️

Journal entry by Rachel Boucher

Hello all! Today I began my 2nd cycle of chemo with chemo treatment #5. This chemo, Taxol, is supposed to be easier on the stomach and energy but a little harder with neuropathy and pain.
Patrick and I went to Las Vegas this past week to celebrate our anniversary and had an amazing time! Then this weekend we led our Relay for Life team until our event was shut down early due to 35mph winds.
Thank you to everyone for your continued support. It means a lot to me and gives me a boost when I start to feel down. I only have 3 chemo therapy treatments after today! Then I will have about 7 weeks of radiation and hormone therapy. I’m on my way to complete healing!!!!
