Patricia ’s Story

Site created on October 9, 2023

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Many of you know that Pat has been living with dementia  for several years now. In spite of this, she has remained healthy, and has enjoyed a relatively  active social life at Iris Park Commons in an assisted living apartment. She is grateful for more than 50 years of sobriety, and for all of the friends she found in AA in Saint Paul Minnesota and in Ireland where she worked to help others find health and sobriety.
Dementia is a cruel disease that often robs people of their memories, and turns the world into a confusing and alien place.
Pat will be 94 next month, and is remarkably healthy and able bodied, but in July she suddenly lost her ability to articulate her thoughts coherently, probably due to a minor stroke, and when she 'eloped' from her AL apartment, the staff immediately moved her to Katy's Cottage (Memory Care) where she gets direct care from dedicated staff.
She still knows who she is, and recognizes each of her 3 daughters, and retains her mischievous sense of humor. She is delighted when friends and family come to visit, and take her for a walk. But many of her old friends are gone now, or are home-bound themselves.  She is lonely.  Please let me (Jeanne) know if I can help you to find the way to visit her... before she disappears.  I will convey your best wishes, love, and greetings and do my best to 'remember' you to her.

Journal entry by Jeanne laBore

Hello dear family and friends. Mom finally slipped out through the locked doors of Katy's Cottage in the dark hours before dawn this morning without triggering the alarm. By now she has found her way back home to County Tipperary where her McGillis ancestors are as happy to have her home as we are sorry to see her gone. She won't be returning to the States this time.
Arrangements have been made for waking at O'Halloran and Murphy in Saint Paul on Thursday December 14th 4:30 -6:30. Burial Mass at St. Clement's (Catholic and) Episcopal Church, 901 Portland Avenue in Saint Paul at 10:30 A.M. on Friday 12/15, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery at noon.
Please look for full obituary on the O'Halloran and Murphy web site soon.
Please 🙏 share the link to this site with our family and friends.
Daughters Jeanne LaBore, Katie LaBore, and Cecile LaBore appreciate any and all condolences shared here, or more personally, by phone or email or snail mail.
And I will post our requests for support and help on Caring Bridge as well.
