Oli has a new heart - Day 2
Oliver officially has a fully functioning heart! The first thing we noticed when we saw him was that his nails didn’t look purple anymore and he didn’t have blue undertones to his skin.
Over these past couple days, he has been making strides. We are officially off any form of blood pressure medication and today his chest tubes were removed (these helped remove any excess blood/fluid from his chest wall). He is currently intubated and only heavily sedated to keep him comfortable.
Next steps will be to wean down the ventilator and hopefully extubate soon. Once that’s done, we can go back to the floor. The team seems optimistic that we’ll most likely be home by the end of the month or sooner, which would be so soon! Time to adjust to a new normal :)

Oliver tiene un corazón nuevo - día dos
Oliver ya tiene un corazón que funciona por completo. La primera cosa que notamos cuando le vimos por primera vez fue que sus uñas ya no estaban moradas y su piel no era tan pálida y azul como antes.
Estos dos días ha progresado adecuadamente. Le hemos quitado cualquier medicación para la tensión y los tubos que tenia conectados con el pecho han sido quitados. Estos tubos ayudan a quitar cualquier tipo de líquido acumulado en el pecho. Todavía tiene el tubo respiratorio y está muy sedado.
Mañana veremos si le podemos quitar el tubo respiratorio y con un poco de suerte ir a planta hacia el final de la semana. Los médicos son optimistas y creen que podremos estar en casa hacia finales de mes o incluso antes. Nos tendremos que acostumbrar a una rutina nueva pero estamos muy orgullosos de Oli y tenemos muchas ganas de estar en casa con él.
