Welcome to Oliver's journey. Little Oli (or Little Don Julio, as we used to call him before he was born) was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) during our 20 week ultrasound. This journal will help keep everybody up to speed with his condition, progress and next steps. Thank you for being here!

Gracias.

Oli has a new heart - Day 2

Oliver officially has a fully functioning heart! The first thing we noticed when we saw him was that his nails didn’t look purple anymore and he didn’t have blue undertones to his skin.

Over these past couple days, he has been making strides. We are officially off any form of blood pressure medication and today his chest tubes were removed (these helped remove any excess blood/fluid from his chest wall). He is currently intubated and only heavily sedated to keep him comfortable.

Next steps will be to wean down the ventilator and hopefully extubate soon. Once that’s done, we can go back to the floor. The team seems optimistic that we’ll most likely be home by the end of the month or sooner, which would be so soon! Time to adjust to a new normal :)
We are very excited and very proud of him. More to come!
