Nicole’s Story

Site created on September 16, 2012

Hi! Welcome to our CaringBridge site. The hospital provides this website so all our friends and family can keep up with everything that is going on with Nicole and any updates we can provide!

I was three weeks into my junior year at Greenwich High School when I was diagnosed with type B ALL leukemia.  Within four hours my life was forever changed.  I had been looking forward to being a tri-varsity athlete (field hockey, track, and lacrosse), getting my driver's license, prepping for the SATs (kinda), junior prom, and doing well in my classes to fulfill my college dreams.  You know the saying: We make plans and g-d laughs?  I may have leukemia, but I also have amazing friends and family. I will keep on smiling and together we will laugh (and yes, sometimes cry) as we embark on my ROAD TO RECOVERY!

...and we're back. After being over 5 years in remission, my cancer returned in January of my senior year at Dartmouth. Given that this was a relapse, we knew a bone marrow transplant was an option so we decided to switch my care to Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City as that is also where my life and many of my friends lives will be moving after graduation. We are so grateful for the love and support we had the first time around and are so lucky to have you by our sides again while we kick cancer's butt one last time!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Nicole Graham

218 t-cells.

Do I need to say more?

On Friday the nurse called with the news we have been waiting for - I passed 200 t cells!!  No words can describe our happiness and excitement and I still don’t think I’ve fully processed it. It is really over and I am in the clear. We did it!! And right in time for me to move into the city on September 1st.

A year and 8 months from first being diagnosed, 14 months since my transplant, this journey has tested all of our patience more than we could have ever imagined, but it’s over - and here’s to only looking ahead!

Most importantly though, I want to thank you all. Almost 7 years from when I was first diagnosed, I am so grateful for all the support I have gotten. Your support is what got me here and I’m truly speechless. I wish I could thank you all in person, but from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Here’s to a life full of health and happiness. And to never hearing the word cancer again!

All my love,
Nicole
