This is a post we have been wanting to do for sometime, but Colleen has been very reluctant. I know that we all understand how hard it is for her to ask for help, but she really doesn’t have a lot of options. Even though Nich's health has (generally) stabilized in the day-to-day, the financial burden continues to weigh heavily on them - and unlike the shorter-term crisis when he initially got sick, this isn't something that's going to pass. It's their reality now.

It will be three years in August since her and Nich started living this nightmare with no end in sight. The way the system is set up, she can get help with his care, but she can never have more than $2000. They take all of his retirement money, all of his Social Security and she still has to write a check for the balance every month. She works three days a week, and spends the rest of the time with him. At the end of the month she is short between $500-$600 every month.

She did go to working four days a week, and when she did that, they raised her portion an additional $500 a month. This was more than she made on that additional day, and it makes no sense to take that time away from him.

She is so very grateful for all of the support and help they has gotten over the 32 months and when you look at the total on the GoFundMe page, it is phenomenal. But to be clear, there is no money. $30,210 averages out to $944 a month and when we think back to the first several months when she was living out of hotel rooms and traveling, that took up a great deal of it.

She has absolutely no money for anything extra, and this month alone she has had to buy a new contact, which was $244, had her car repaired once for $600 and is going back in again today. Even the little things like switching from private insurance to Medicare has extra cost, her prescription went from six dollars to $48 a month. For you and I that’s nothing but for her it’s significant . It is overwhelming for her.

So thank you for following this long story so far, and honestly, I think a lot of us would be in the same position if something like this happened to us.

I do not have a solution, but I do have a suggestion. If God has blessed you with more than you need, and you are willing to set up a monthly payment to their GoFundMe, as much or as little as you can afford, with the goal being $600 a month , it would be so appreciated. If you do not want to do the GoFundMe, you can send it directly to Tammy or directly to Nich & Colleen .

Thank you for your love and concern for both of them. They covet your continued prayers and support.
