Newest Update

Journal entry by Stephanie Schulz

Hi everyone,

It’s been a long time since we shared on here but I wanted to give an update on a couple of things.

Earlier in the year, we received unfortunate news that the Down Stream creek naming fell through due to unforeseen circumstances; however, Nick’s wonderful friends in the Watershed Protection Department came together and proposed to install a memorial bench at our old neighborhood park as an alternative tribute. I am pleased to share that, as of last week, the bench has been installed and sits beautifully in the shade with great views of the entire park and the creek that will forever be known as Down Stream to us. It is truly special and we are so grateful for Chris, Matt, and the other sweet folks in WPD to push this forward. I've attached a few photos below of the bench plaque and placement in the park. If you are in town and would like to visit, the Battle Bend Park address is 121 Sheraton Ave, Austin, TX 78745.

In other news, we managed to raise just shy of $37,000 for Nicholas’ scholarship and were able to make it a permanent endowment at Texas State University officially this past April. We are still blown away by everyone’s generous donations - a huge thank you to everyone that contributed to the scholarship fund! This would not have been possible without your support. The first scholarship has already been awarded for the 2021-22 year. Nick would be so proud!!

We are hoping to have an in person celebration of life in Austin later this fall. Details will come as we coordinate with family members.

All our best,
Stephanie & Lisa
