Liz’s Story

Site created on December 5, 2022

As some of you may have already heard, we recently learned that Liz’s brain cancer has progressed down her spine. This rare development has complicated matters by causing downstream, neurological deficits affecting bowel and bladder control which has required hospitalization. These neurological deficits are also causing Liz to lose feeling in her legs which is causing mobility issues. She is working with Physical Therapists while in the hospital to learn new ways to move around. She is also continuing radiation therapy in her spine to try to slow the growth of tumors in that area. Her care team is currently hard at work to address this change in prognosis and we hope to have her home soon.

We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support that Liz, Jared, Charlie, and Ferrin have received from all of their family and friends during this difficult time! We have created this site as a centralized forum to keep everyone up to date on Liz’s current health journey while facilitating continued engagement and support from all well-wishers and loved ones. We will provide updates on behalf of  Liz, Jared, Charlie, and Ferrin and their dedicated care team as they come.

Our main goal is to get Liz home from the hospital, so we’re asking for no additional visitors at this time while we work hard on meeting the milestones necessary to make this possible.

Please continue to communicate your support for Liz through the Well Wishes section on this Never Stop site and to stay current on Liz’s progress.

Thank you all!

Journal entry by Rich Hall

Elizabeth Ann Hall Murphy, 39, passed away in her home in the early hours of January 20 after an eight year battle against brain cancer.  She was the beloved wife of Jared Murphy, devoted mother of Charlie and Ferrin Murphy, daughter of David and Jenny Hall, sister of Richard and Rebecca Hall, and guiding light of the Murphy-Love family.

Liz grew up in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania with her family and friends, and was educated at the University of Vermont. She spent many summers working at Cold River Camp in the White Mountains which was one of her favorite places throughout her life. In 2007, she went to Antarctica to work at McMurdo Station where she met her husband, Jared. Upon returning to the US, Liz and Jared, who had fallen madly, truly, and deeply in love, were married, and moved to Morrison, Colorado, where they raised their two perfectly beautiful children, Charlie and Ferrin. Liz loved spending time with her family and friends, homeschooling her children, traveling, adventuring, hiking, skiing, and tending to her garden, chickens, goats, and bees.

She was kind and generous, warm and gracious, smart and wise. She was funny, optimistic, and utterly courageous. She was a true inspiration.

Liz did not want a traditional funeral service but will be celebrated at home surrounded by family. She will be remembered and loved by all who knew her. We will continue a celebration of her life with a multitude of gatherings to come.
