Journal

I read something recently and couldn't help but think of what I've witnessed regarding the care given to Miranda and Joel since her transplants and traumatic brain injury before Christmas. Apparently, in the year 125 AD, a Greek philosopher named Aristides attempted to explain Christianity to Roman Emperor Hadrian. This is how he described Christians:

"They love one another. They never fail to help widows. They save orphans from those who would hurt them. If they have something, they give freely to the one who has nothing. If they see an immigrant, they take him into their homes and rejoice over him as a brother."

And I would add, "They go out of their way to care for those who are suffering in body and spirit." That's what the Rockey's village has been doing! Family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and people from The Table (their church) have helped do some of the heavy lifting regarding Miranda's care, insurance issues, meetings with care givers, and much more. It has been a sight to behold! A poignant example of the beauty of the body of Christ and the human family!

We can't stress enough how much it means to Miranda and Joel to have this able-bodied and engaged village to offer care. So thank you, thank you! And if you haven't visited, or haven't visited Miranda in a while, please text me (Beth at 317-362-3680) and I'd be delighted to add you to the calendar. We recommend that the first time you visit to do so with an experienced visitor. That helps so much! Just let me know via text and I can connect you with someone.

Miranda continues to make real progress! And she has down days, too. This seems to be very normal for someone healing from so much physical trauma.  She is getting stronger; taking steps and standing with assistance. She has a good appetite and is feeding herself, also with assistance. She even painted some vibrant pictures and wrote a poem with the help of her friend, Donna! (included below)

All to say, there are days where Joel and the kids and her village are very encouraged. And then there are other days that feel so very overwhelming and sad. Please continue to pray for Miranda and Joel, Olivia and Nolan, and consider visiting Miranda when you can. She is such a delight to spend time with!
