Newest Update

Journal entry by Mercedes Rawson

It's time for an update. I have had 2 CTs since my last update and I am happy to report that I am stable. There has not been evidence of a recurrent tumor for a year now, when the trial med began to take effect. I am thankful that the last 2 CT's impressions have not been ambiguous. They are straightforward and do not show any new growth.

I'm am managing the side effects which can be overwhelming some days. The most significant side effect is peripheral neuropathy. I have pain and tingling in my hands and feet, especially at night. This also causes me to feel unbalanced. Mornings are rough but I have found that going slow and making time for exercise, either yoga or walking really helps.

Last month I asked my Dr and the trial coordinator if I can space my CT more than 8 weeks. Unfortunately, that is not a possibility and I will continue the 8 weeks schedule although it would be nice to space the "scanxiety" attacks out a little longer and give my remaining kidney a longer break from filtering the contrast. As long as I am on the trial, 8 weeks it will be. I am thankful that I have this treatment available to me.

The family is doing well and continue to be an amazing support system. Rose earned her Masters in Occupational Therapy in December. She is awaiting her National Board Exam results and starting to wade into the interview process. Grace started a new job in the fall and she is enjoying the change. She is on the sales team for the boatline division at Trader Interactive. Paul started his second semester at UW-La Crosse and loves it. Randy and I love watching the kids flourish.

Thank you for checking up on me and for the prayers.

Love,
Mercedes
