Megan’s Story

Site created on June 17, 2023

If you have ever had the pleasure in taking one of Megan's yoga classes you know she always starts with an inspirational quote.  "I've met quite a few assholes in my life, but cancer is by far the biggest one of them" - is the quote that best describes the start of Megan's journey.

As you have heard by now, Megan has been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.  She has received an outpouring of support and has felt comforted knowing so many of you want to help. The past few weeks have been full of appointments and many tests.  Megan has met with a team of doctors and specialist to help come up with a care plan including chemo therapy for 16 weeks, a double mastectomy with reconstruction, radiation, and hormone therapy.  Megan will have her port for chemo therapy put in Thursday, July 6th.  Her first round of chemo will be July 13th.  Megan is already looking forward to an end date of chemo around Halloween if all goes to plan.  After chemo, Megan will be able to have some time off to rest before her double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.   Once we have concrete dates for Megan's surgery and radiation plans we will update the site.

At this time, if you feel inclined to help, Megan and Chris are asking for gift cards only.    You will find the very FIRST JOURNAL  post called "WAYS TO HELP" posted on July 1st; this post is full of different ways you can help The Buchholz family and it will be updated often.

Megan wraps up her classes leaving her fellow yogis with something positive to take with them and reflect on; this quote comes to mind: "Small steps everyday".

Thank you for being here to support Megan and her family as she takes "small steps" each day in the right direction to kick cancers ass.

Please feel free to reach out to me (Erin) at anytime.

Journal entry by Erin Woodis

Well....just look at the title; SHE DID IT!

Today is Megan's last day of radiation!  What a true celebration for her and her family.  She is such an inspiration and within less than a year has been able to overcome so many challenges.  Her 7 weeks of radiation have been relatively uneventful, unlike her chemo, and now she will have the chance to rest her body and regain all of her strength.  While there are still many decisions and unknowns coming her way to continue to help her body fight off this cancer, the past 8 months have been full of trails and tribulations and she has handled them all with such grace and positivity.  She has continued to work on helping others throughout this process; I am still in awe of her starting Moving Mountains and while her yoga practice took a bit of a back seat, she has started teaching again.  I can't help but be inspired by her and I'm sure each of you reading this, feels the same.

Thank you all for supporting Megan and her family.  They are so grateful for all of you and your prayers, love, support, and help.

If you are reading this and it is after 8:45am....send Megan a text if you can...she did it!  Heck, if you see this before then.....text her anyway... what a rockstar of a friend we all have!
