The body always wants to heal

At least that’s what I recall Ajahn Sucitto saying on retreat in March 2020.

This phrase, “the body always wants to heal.”  has been bubbling up and repeating like a mantra in these recent weeks.

Right now,  I am experiencing healing.  The healing is evident.  This statement seems so very true and inspiring. I can feel the many many ways the body seems inclined to move back into greater harmony.  Changes are evident day by day.  My heartmind is lighter, brighter.  

The diminishment of pain is noticeable.  Mobility is improving.  Without the sludge of narcotics for pain, there is a brightness of mind more often.  It consistently gives me confidence to notice that physical vedana and mental vedana can be different. The body can be full of discomfort and the mental stream can be quite pleasant.  Usually, the investigation of unpleasant feelings/sensation gives rise to a delighted interest. The nature of the sensations and then the various forms of reactivity to the discomfort can invite investigation and energy to grow together in the flow of continuity of mindfulness.  

This is one of those times when meditation practice and real life experience are practically entwined and mutually beneficial.  The greater the mindfulness the less the physical pain.  From the other side, the less the mindfulness, the greater the reactive distress around the physical pain. 

It is quite amazing to feel the protection of continuity of mindfulness, especially continuity of mindfulness during movement.  And, whenever mindfulness and investigation come together, energy is likely to emerge.  This creates conditions for a protective kind of pleasure to emerge.  The pleasure seems to emerge with the gladness and awe at the synergistic power of the factors of awakening.  

It’s a much more interesting journey this week.  I am gladdened
