Mary O’s Story

Site created on December 23, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

With a heavy heart, we want to share with you all that Mary has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Endometrial cancer. Thankfully right now she is feeling well and very hopeful.

She is in good hands at the Cleveland Clinic, and she has a solid game plan to fight this with everything she’s  got. We feel optimistic that the treatment plan will
attack this cancer and it will respond favorably.

Mary starts chemotherapy January 5, and surgery will likely be in March.
Her treatment plan will last thru May.

We know  many of you will want to reach out to Mary directly,  please do so by text, email, or the good  ole reliable USPS, rather than by a phone call.  She is loved by so many!!

Also, because her immune system will be compromised
by chemo she will need to be extra cautious because  of Covid.
I am in town to stay with Mary as long as she needs me. Thank goodness Patrick and Carlie and the boys recently moved from DC and are now living in Avon Lake close by.
Mary is also blessed  with some wonderful friends who are here for her every step of the way.

Patrick and I will update you here often.

In the meantime, let's flood the heavens with prayers for Mary.

Love and wishes to all family and
friends for a  better 2021!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Patrick Gliha

Hi all,

I wanted to share an update on Mom. While the plan had originally been to start 5 weeks of radiation, we’ve had to call an audible.

While reviewing the mapping scans for the radiation, the oncologists found some additional lymph nodes that are simply too close to organs to safely perform radiation.

With the radiation treatment plan off the table, Mom will instead begin an immunotherapy combo (infused and oral) next week. She’ll receive the infused immunotherapy (Keytruda) once every 3 weeks and the oral chemo daily.

This particular combo has been shown to be pretty well tolerated, and the hope is that she won’t face any major side effects (though she’ll certainly be tired). The good news is - she won’t lose her hair with this regimen!

We’ll keep everyone updated as she gets going, and thanks for all the continued love, thoughts, and prayers.

-Pat
