Some of you who have followed Marla's Facebook posts know that Marylyn was discharged from UH on Thursday (12/12) evening. There were conflicting stories regarding the status of her insurance precertification process, and an utter breakdown in communication and care from the "caregivers" at University Hospital. So... rather than being transferred to Cleveland Clinic Rehab, she was sent home. The ensuing 48 hours required attendance every second to keep her safe through her restless agitation, unsteadiness, and pain. Though we made every effort, she ate and drank very little.

Saturday evening, Marylyn became shaky and weak, and crumpled to the floor (guided gently by Paula and Art). After a brief powwow, and the realization that things were unlikely to improve, they took her to Hillcrest/Cleveland Clinic ER. CT scans revealed 3 active bleeds in her brain, blood clots in her lungs, and A-fib (atrial fibrillation, which causes rapid ineffective heart activity). More was done for her in 4 hours at Hillcrest than we experienced in 10 days at UH. That she was discharged from UH with no follow-up tests or scans to confirm her stable condition was medically negligent and unconscionable. We couldn't be more relieved and grateful for the attention and comprehensive CARE she is receiving so far at Hillcrest. She was admitted to the ICU late last night with hourly Neuro checks, and will be further evaluated by Neurology today. They are administering steroids every 6 hours to address the swelling and pressure around her brain, and are medicating for the A-fib.

I know that Marylyn is loved by many, and all of your thoughts and prayers are received with grateful hearts. I also need to add that Paula and Marla are Marylyn's personal angel warriors. They are a force of love and devotion like I have never seen. I have no doubt that they will persevere with unrelenting spirits until their beautiful, sweet mother is back to herself again.
