Mark’s Story

Site created on January 31, 2024

January 1, 2024 Sugar bowl - New Orleans. Huskies beat the Longhorns in an epic win! The next day our lives changed forever. After being very sick yet being very stubborn our guy, under recommendation of our IV nurse and his wife later calling an ambulance Mark was admitted to Ochsner hospital where he stayed for 21 days, diagnosed with a GI bleed and esophageal ulcers and ultimately liver disease and acute kidney failure. Not eligible for a liver transplant at Ochsner, and Swedish hospital denying him hospital medical treatment (after first approving) Virginia Mason accepted Mark as a hospital to hospital transfer thankfully. Mark was medically flown to Seattle on January 22nd . The Virginia Mason liver team worked in conjunction with the UW liver team and Mark was transferred to UW on Wednesday, January 24th. After a variety of protocols, evaluations, assessments, interviews, blood tests, procedures, dialysis and you-name-it’s, Mark will receive a second lease on life, a liver transplant. God is great! To our family and all our fiercely loyal friends- thank you. We are forever grateful for your love, support and endless prayers. To all the doctors, nurses and every specialist and anyone else that has helped Mark along this journey. Thank you and God bless you for the good work you do you are angels among us….💜 To those decision-makers, you made the right choice I promise you, Mark will not let you down!

Journal entry by Gloriana Meadowcroft

Someone, and his dear brother, are celebrating a birthday today!!! 💜💜💜  Obviously,  we are incredibly grateful to be celebrating his birthday as the alternative was literally knocking on the door just a few months ago… 😳

We celebrated by getting him a new suit sport coat and slacks for the up and coming wedding for Lauren and Brayden,  that we HOPE he can attend…

We had never been to Ascend before… Although, the sushi looked amazing, Mark couldn’t partake, but the steaks were delicious and so were the mocktails! 🩷

But before that, we stopped at our neighbors going away party… Sad to see our wonderful neighbors and friends, Tony and Theresa, move away to Montreal… our neighborhood will not be the same!!! 😔

Speaking of neighbors, Matt and Jessica,  made us some incredible authentic gumbo earlier this week and it was delicious !!! (Thank you so much!) They lived in NOLA for awhile and found an authentic recipe and have mastered it!

But what I really wanted to say today is that it can’t be said enough, how GRATEFUL we are for all of you who have been by our side through all of this… praying and willing for Mark to get better.  We have come so far in such a short time. 💜 There were days that were just hell, but then there was always someone, one of you, that pulled us out of the inferno and gave us hope. That was all we needed. HOPE.  💯 Prayers came from all over … New Zealand, Vietnam, Barcelona, NYC, NOLA, all over the PNW, Canada, Mexico, heck even the Caribbean… 😳  It’s still hard for Mark to fully comprehend and appreciate it all to be honest…  He doesn’t remember a lot of detail, which is probably a good thing… but he does know how blessed he is for the incredible love and support that has kept him going…  So thank you friends… it’s because of you that we are able to celebrate Mark (and Dave, too) today!!

With lots and lots of love !!
