Margie "Honey"’s Story

Site created on December 9, 2019

Our very dear and loving Mother/Grandmother, Margie Rushing aka Honey suffered a massive Ischemic Stroke on Wednesday December 4, 2019. The Neuro surgeon was able to remove the blood clot located on the left side of her brain. Currently, Honey does not have much movement in her right side but every day she proves just how awesome our God is. She is able to wiggle her toes and is trying to move her right hip. Her speech is improving daily and her cognitive abilities and mind are as sharp as a tac. She spent several days in NCCU at OLOL and was transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation hospital where she will have intense physical and speech therapy several hours daily. Our Honey is such an incredible inspiration and beautiful testament to God's unconditionally love and grace. If you have had the privilege of knowing Honey, you would soon find that she is so selfless, loving, organized, likes to have fun and loves to spend time with the people she loves. Please feel free to leave words of encouragement and prayers as I will read them to her just as a reminder she is loved by SO many. Our family would like to thank each one of you for all of your prayers, love and support through such a difficult time. Honey is such a beautiful and strong warrior and I know she wont give up without a fight. We love you Honey!
God Bless!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Teal Dicharry

Update on our beloved "Honey"! She is progressing every day. Her voice is getting louder and more clear to understand. She's been able to move her right toes and ankle. Which is a great sign. She also has feeling and extreme pain in her right arm. She was diagnosed with hand and shoulder syndrome.  Which is common after a stroke. It causes extreme pain. Treatment options are limited to nerve blockers and physical therapy. She has had a few minor set backs though. An IV with fluids was put back in to keep her hydrated as she wasn't drinking enough fluids. Also, a catheter was placed again because she was not emptying her bladder on her own. I think the nerve block they had been giving her at night to help with arm pain has made the rest of her nerves too relaxed. So hopefully we can decrease the dose and that will help with the urine issues. Overall, we are very pleased with her progress thus far. She has a long journey ahead but the good Lord above definitely has His hands on her. We cant thank everyone enough for all the prayers, support and uplifting messages. Honey is so beyond blessed that she has all of you cheering her on. We want to wish everyone a very Merry and Blessed Christmas and Happy New Year!! God Bless you and your families! ❤ Teal
